Background
During the wars in the second age, Beleriand was torn assunder.
Some of the brighter moments during that age came about when the Edain fomred alliances with the eldar, and fought alongside them to best the darkness that was pouring forth from Angband, the fortress of Morgoth Bauglir.
The Faradrim honour those alliances for old, and once again men and elves fight alongside one another, to push back the shadow now settling across the free lands.

Your elf does not need to be from Beleriand, nor does your man/woman need to be a descendant of the edain. The kinship background is merely that we stand alongside one another as elves and edain did during the wars in Beleriand.
