-2nd Day of Winterfilth 3019 -
The sun was already up when I awoke this morning, the walk to Oatbarton yesterday must have taken more out of me than I thought.
Spent the morning doing a spot of cleaning and then preparing some herbs I had left over, they were no longer fresh so I had to finely chop and then leave them in an open oven to dry them.
Suddenly realized I had forgotten about that old book I found on the Greenfields and decided to try and get that clasp open. The file I usually use to scrape the goat’s hooves was too big so I tried to pick the lock with one of me old hatpins but it just bent the pin. Will take the book to the blacksmith tomorrow and see if he can help.
- 3rd Day of Winterfilth 3019 -
Up early today due to being woken by the goat who had managed to chew through his rope and get into the kitchen. No bacon for breakfast, thanks to the goat, so had to make do with a bit of bread and cheese. First job of the day was to go see the blacksmith to see if he could open the lock on the old book and to buy a chain for the goat.
Blacksmith was going to take a large hammer to the lock on the book before I stopped him and asked if there were a more subtle technique he could use. After a bit of mumbling he finally removed the tiny lock by heating the rivets that held the clasp in place. Decided to wait until I got home to read the book and in all the excitement I forgot to get the chain.
Made a pot of tea and sat down with the book. I was very surprised to see the book was filled with pictures of herbs and flowers. I could recognize all of the ones in the first few chapters, and knew a fair few that seemed to have been missed out. But later chapters seemed to contain plants I had never seen or heard of. A bit more investigation is required as the writing within the pages is not only in a very fine script, making it hard to read, but it also appears to be in another language entirely.
- 4th Day of Winterfilth 3019 -
Goat got out again, must remember to get that chain.
I spent the day looking through the book. The more I read the more I think that it is merely a product of an over active imagination. Some drawings at the back are of trees taller than even the great pines of the Brandyhills with leaves of gold and a pure white bark, much like our own birch trees. There are many pictures of mountains with small flowers growing amongst the snow, which is most odd.
Finally got around to getting a length of chain from blacksmith, should be able to keep the goat out the kitchen now.
