Kavel defended our flank, fighting in the same fashion as our attackers, whereas I took the fight to our front. Two foes charged against me, though one was far keener than the other. Or perhaps the other had more cunning about him. The first launced his spear at me from around sixty foot. I had to use my shield to deflect it before charging straight for him and cutting him down. Claw-like gauntlets were the only other weapon the beast carried, and those were no match for honest steel. The second foe proved to be more tricky..
