Sweetgrass, Bree land,
I have laid aside my duties for one night and am returned home to Sweetgrass on the Greenway west of Bree. Adilhere and Fuinyrlas gave me a warm welcome and, as I helped my father and brothers about the farm I realised, somewhat to my surprise, that I had missed this place. My mother's stew is nearing ready, and as I write these words the smell of fresh baked bread wafts from the larder. In light of all that has happened these past weeks, it is truly good to be home.
Daingean and Mreth have led the Red Company west to Ered Luin to meet one Fuldrin, son of Falrin. A young captain of one of the Dwarrow houses, I do not recall him from my time there, and nor does Daingean, but it seems that he remembers us, and he has requested that we travel there. As my business in Dunland has kept me late, I urged the Red Company west whilst I attended to the last of Bron's messages here in Bree. If, as she believes, some trade might be opened between her people and ours, I believe it would go some way to repairing the distance and hurt that seems to have grown between our peoples since the old days. I feel in my heart that if matters continue to go ill both here in the North and, as is rumoured, in the south, there may come a time when all men may be forced to choose a side. If this should come to pass, I would rather stand beside these fell handed Dunlendings in battle than against them.
I know that, despite rest, good food, and a warm bed I will not sleep tonight. No, I will find myself astride Swancorwine, upon the Greenway, as I look for my kin's return, and await the dawn.
