Chronicles of Gwenbur: Entry 3

Gwenbur is seated in her Bree home on the bed. She opens her diary, dips her quill into the ink situated on the chair nearby, then starts to write.

I am overwhelmed with matters going on in my life. So much seems to be occuring in such little time. This is not bad at all, it is just a different pace than I am used to. Just a couple of days ago I was recruited as a Defender by Isilorbor. He walked me all the way from Bree to the Defender's sanctuary. I must say it was a very tiring journey, I feel he may have been testing me. He asked many questions and told me tales of how the Defenders came to be, what they were and what they are now. We stopped at crossroads, he asked me what path do I wish to take. Of course I chose to take the path of a Defender. This path was chosen for me, by my heart quite some time ago.

She stops to dip her quill again. She smiles to herself.

Isilorbor said the Defenders are like siblings and are always willing to aid one another. I admire such a bond between kindred. I feel I shall settle in nicely. My friends Rionir and Ferabor are already Defenders. They assure me I shall be fine. I am looking forward to the challenges being a Defender will inevitably bring. There is darkness to fight, people to protect. I shall complete my tasks with honour. I hope I will never let my new brothers and sisters down.

There are are a couple of drops of ink on the paper, as if Gwenbur had stopped to think of what to write next.

I did not get any sleep that day. Shortly after my joining the Defenders, I received a letter via courier. It was from my beloved, Far. He was in Duillond with Andarne, they wished to see me at the soonest convenience. I made my way there immediately, to find Far standing on a bank. He told me his Tur would be with us shortly. My fatigue was replaced with nerves. While I do think I am a confident person, this moment was one I was anticipating, yet awfully nervous over. Andarne approached us. I got to my feet immediately.

Gwenbur smiles.

What I saw before me was a very handsome Elf. His hair was fair, in a similar style to that of Far's. he was tall and his build strong. I am going to take a risk and guess he hails from The Golden Wood. He reminded me very much of my Lorien friend, Melquen. Andarne's eyes were stern and proud, yet had a softness to them. He very much looked the part of a leader. I found him to be very kind and understanding, despite the situation he has been put in. He spoke to me privately of the burdens I would have to face being wedded to an Elf. I know these all too well, and told him such. He spoke of any future children, saying they too would hold the burden. I am prepared for this. I know I can do this. My children shall be loved and supported. They will not share the burden alone. I love Telfaras deeply. We shall prevail.

She dips her quill into the ink again. She glances over at the fire. Her eyes glitter in the light. She continues writing.

Andarne bestowed a name upon me. He has named me "Evergreen", in a hope that mine and Far's love will reflect it. I am honoured to be given such a meaningful title by my beloved's Tur. I shall treasure it, always.

Telfaras and I now have a home to move into when we are married. I am to move away from Bree and live in Falathlorn, Ered Luin. We have selected a quaint house in a beautiful area. It is right beside a waterfall on its own little island. It is all that I could hope for. It is so romantic. I bought Far a bookshelf to mark the occasion. He was thrilled with it. I know how much he loves to pour over books and documents, now he can do so in the comfort of his own home. Tur Andarne stopped by to visit and look around. He kindly helped us decorate. I have much gratitude for him. I now consider him a friend.

Gwenbur grins. She then stops writing and glances around the house. Her grin fades into a slight smile.

I shall miss Bree-land in a way. This place has been kind to me since I arrived in Eriador. I will certainly make regular visits, it is just I will not be based here anymore. I shall still have this house, but shall not be living in it. My love does not take kindly to Bree, he only remains here for me. I do not wish this. Besides, I was considering moving eventually. I anticipate my marriage very much. I cannot wait to set up home with my husband. It is a dream. I am so, so lucky! I shall cease writing now. I need sleep.

Gwenbur yawns. She puts her quill and ink away, then shuts the diary. She places it onto the beside chair. She lays down, sleep overtaking her.
