Journal entry page # 152 - You cant sleep when your bed is burning

Where shall I begin to write this eventful day. The morning would be a good place to start. I found Tidhelm and Wulfreda up and ready in the fortified camp of the Rohirrim. It was there when I saw Melowen walking towards me. The young girl has followed us all the way here! I was happy to see her, she has great skill with blades and a strange eagerness to fight. I saw Tidhelm discussing with the captains about some strategy. A strategic hillpoint at the heathfells has been under attack all night by Dunlendings. We were quick to offer our aid so we mounted up to strengthen the battle front with our blades and shields.

And so we rode to the hill, against the hill there were strange purple flowers which I have not seen before. Once we reached the top the wild men were attacking the Rohirrim barricade. We rushed in to push back the enemy forces. The Rohirrim stationed there were weary of the constant pressure of the enemy, so we came just in time. The wild men stormed the barricade with warpaint on their faces and wild screams. They had little armor beside rags and deer pelts. Their banners were that of a stag, which probably belonged to a certain tribe.

After slaying a few of the wild men we started to gain ground. We dragged the wounded Rohirrim back behind the barricade and left the dead. Soon another wave of warriors came rushing in with hounds this time. We barely could fight them off as they were coming from all sides. We managed to keep them at bay, we had to make a plan quickly! After the wave of wild men were pushed back, Wulfreda and Melowen and I were sneaky enough to get behind enemy lines. There we saw a village bearing the same banners of the stag. We decided to sneak towards their village which consisted of primitive straw-roofed huts. The village was rather quiet as all the men were on the battlefield. We searched for the largest building and found their leader. A fierce looking man who has decorations of bones and skulls. He shouted in a strange tongue and we killed him soon after. The few guards we encountered were easily killed by suprise. We released and mounted their horses, and set a fire in their village. The flames went wild as the straw-roofs were burning, and each adjacent hut catches fire until the whole village was burning. I heard screams of despair and anger so we rode out of the village quickly with stolen horses. We galloped towards the barricade where the wild men were retreating towards their burning homes. This gave the Rohirrim time to recover and tend to the wounded, yet as I realise while I write this, the retribution of the wild men may be fierce...
