She sat straight up in bed, awaken by her own screams, and it took a while for her to understand that it was just the dream that once again had visited her.
Managing to calm down and slow her breaths, she sank back into the pillow again, her eyes staring blankly into the darkness of the ceiling above her.
"Oh how I wish that dream would go away" she thought, wondering why it always came back to her, almost as to haunt her.
Her thoughts started to drift in the darkness while she lay awake, she thought of the re-occurring dream where her mother tried to throw her into the river, to the events of this past week, when she had to put her old father in the ground, re-uniting him with her mother.
Shifting in the bed, she laid on her side, looking out the small window over the sleepy village, seeing the sun starting to rise to the east, and a feeling of anticipation was coming over her, knowing this day might be one of changing for her. If she would get the position, of course.
Her gaze shifting to the chair beside her bed, looking at the note she had taken down off of the message board, and then with a sigh she got out from under the warmth of the covers and shivered a bit as her feet hit the cold floor.
She slowly walked up the pathway from the cobble stoned street, the high tower on the left almost intimidating , but knowing she had to do this, she took the few steps up to the door and knocked on it. Clutching the note she took from the message board in her hand, she waited for the door to open.
Thumbing the note in her hand, she looked around at the well taken care yard surrounding the Hall. Suddenly she heard the sound of boots walking with determination over the stone floor inside, and she quickly, and a bit nervously, smoothed the front of her dress and pushed away a stray strand of hair from her face, a feeling of nervousness coming over her.
Keeping her gaze fixed at the large door, she inhaled deeply, trying to calm herself. Not understanding why she suddenly was experiencing this feeling, a mix of anticipation and...almost fear. Who might this Knight-Commander be who has posted the note? she asked herself, once again smoothing an imaginary wrinkle on her dress. Hearing that the sound of steps inside has stopped, she realized that someone was right by the door, expecting it to open at any moment.
Seeing the door open before her, finding herself looking into a chain mail clad chest. Tilting her head backwards, her gaze stops at the tall man's face before her. Taking a deep breath before dipping into a polite curtsey " I bid you good morning. I am here to apply for the position as maid, as per this note" she says, not a twinge of Bree-landish in her speech, and holds the note out in front of her. " Is the Knight-Commander available, please?"
