The sudden disappearance of the Rohirrim bowman

It was normal for Deorgast to suddenly disappear without notice, but only for a matter of days. It was usual for him to go on his casual strolls and endless journeys, to hunt or just to have some time alone with nature. Everybody knew that and how he was, but this time it was different. A few weeks passed and there was no sign of him, Deor was nowhere to be seen. No news from his whereabouts had reached his friends, and no traveler had sighted him for days. What happened to him?

In this particular day, Deorgast was unconscious on the edge of a river, in a place he never was before. He was stripped of almost all of his clothes, the old scars in his back from all the whipping he had suffered totally shown. Furthermore, and the most important thing, his bow was gone. Deorgast slowly opened his eyes, feeling a sudden nausea as he was overwhelmed by pain. At first sight, you could see this man suffered a hard beating, bruises all over his body and blood dripping from the wounds on his core. As a matter of fact, he was lucky to be alive.

Deorgast slowly turned his head around, trying to recognize the place he was in, but with no success. He was lost, beaten, hungry and cold, without any clothes. He couldn't quite remember what happened to him, but he could remember... the faces of the folk who did this to him. Suddenly, all kinds of thoughts passed through his mind. He thought of home, of his friends back in the Dawn, of Bree...

"Why did they...? Where am I? How am I going to get back?"

Deorgast was confused and broken. The look of joy he always carried was long gone. Before he could even take a step further, his weak legs and empty belly took him to the ground. His consciousness slowly began to fade out as he observed the water on the river next to him.

"Is this it?..."
