Rest in the rain

The hunter sat close to the fire, trying to warm his worn and dirtied hands. Adunabel, at sat opposite from him, watching him carefully as he leaned closer to the fire and spoke just above a whisper.

"Why did you call that man out, the one who spoke to the elf? You seemed cross with him, why?"

Cynraede looked up with a questioning look about his face, tilting his head slightly.

"What do you mean why? He showed disrespect and showed hatefulness towards out host, and offended him. We are children of our forefathers, our words and actions reflect on them, revealing how we were taught and how we learned. I do not wish for my fathers to look to me and frown, I have already disgraced them enough."

Adunabel nodded with a smile, tossing a fresh, green apple over the fire to him. The soft patter of rain started to echo through the forest as rain started coming down, the light shower pouring over the company in gentle sheets. Cynraede smiled and pulled up his hood, feeling the cool rain upon his skin and hair. He looked to Adunabel, taking a large bite out of the apple and wiping the juices from his beard.

"I've missed the rain, its been a long time since I've felt it. So, after we pass into Eregion, where do we head?"

Adunabel laughed as he ran a hand through his shoulder length brow hair, that was now being soaked with the rain.

"We pass through southern Eregion, into the lands of Enedwaith. From  there I do not know, it depends on which way our brethren went. The plan was for Dunland, to assist the free people in the region that still try to rebel against the enemy. Lord Aragorn, our chieftain rides to Rohan."

Cynraede took another bite out of the crisp apple, looking to Adunabel with a raised brow.

"Our, chieftain? "

Adunabel looked as if he had been taken back by the hunters words, nodding firmly several times as he pulled his hood up slightly.

"Yes, brother, our chieftain. You are of the Dunadain, are you not? The blood of our lords runs through his veins, he is the descendants of the kings!"

The rather irritated man tried to explain to him, leaning closer to the fire and glaring at Cynraede, who simply finished his apple, tossing the core to his horse as he turned his gaze back to Adunabel.

"I am sure this man, is indeed a great man, this Aragorn.  He is a brother, he is a child of the west and I will fight with him until what we seek has been claimed. I have a leader who I cannot leave, because I have taken an oath to her, and their people. Breaking such would bring disgrace to the name of my father, and the fathers before him. Tell me, how is that any different then what you do even now?"

Cynraede tilted his head and looked at his friend, whom had calmed himself and nodded as he understood what the hunter was saying.

"Forgive me my brother, my words are not my own. The elf, what did you swear to her? Why is your oath such a task to you?"

Cynraede smiled widely and laughed, looking to Adunabel  rather happily.

"When she found me, she knew what I was, knew what I did and hunted. Yet she let me stay, in her eyes it was as if she saw something in me. It was not just her, there was another elf, in these woods long ago. She saw it to, though I do not know her name.  She saw me for what I was, and I have seen the hearts of these people and they are truly meant for good. I spent my times traveling and hunting the wicked and servants of the darkness, learning their ways and walking a path that only had an ending of sadness and pain. I turned back, following my truth path, the one I walk now, thanks to sound words I received from a great many people who care about me. That is why I took my oath, and I will fulfill it to my dying breath."

Adunabel looked to Cynraede as if he was at any moment about to shed tears.

"Truly your heart has changed my brother, and it prides me watching you grow. Even as we walk and ride to these lands, your legacy is beginning. You craft now, the very setting you leave in this world. Each action, has a reaction. This you must learn my brother, for it is the law of all things."

Cynraede tilted his head and gave him a wicked smile

"So brother, pray tell what you see me as now."

Adunabel furled his brows and shook his head, a faint smile upon his lips.

"A loyal friend, growing into a man, and a deadly foe I wish not even on my worst of enemies."
