Making way through Combe, Amdirel happened upon a new friend, the dyemaker Yosim. She was pleasantly surprised to see him and they greeted each other like friends might on a warm afternoon. The conversation quickly evolved into the purpose each had to be in that quaint village. Yosim was searching for some type of root for his dye making. The young woman of Gondor explained she had heard of a lodge in nearby Archet where a furrier and trader of those things hunters come by and she was on her way to find this woman.
Amdirel suggested Yosim accompany her to see the one she had seen a poster about in Bree. "Gwenllyn's Trading Post or something like that," she said as she mounted her horse, "somewhere up there in a lodge near Archet the poster said." The two friends made their way down the well trodden path, around a still pond, across a footbridge and arrived at the lodge.
In due time, Gwenllyn arrived. She had exactly what Yosim had hoped to find, the root of the wild yarrow. Amdirel was thrilled to see she also had ample supply of boar ivory and various types of horn, which she used in her art, that being scrimshaw.
The etching craft was something she learned as a young girl in Dol Amroth from one of the household's older male servants. Her parents never liked the idea, they considered it a crude craft of seaman and unfitting for their daughter. Amdirel loved working on the animal ivory, bone, hoof and horn. Eventually she learned to use various pigments to enhance her work

Amdirel carefully unsheathed a small knife to show Gwenllyn how she used the ivory. The small blade bore the image of an owl. Before the two friends finished their exchange with the Huntress, Amdirel contracted with Gwenllyn to save the largest and whitest ivory she would acquire for the lady scrimshander. Little did the three know, but they would all meet again very soon and it had nothing to do with art, ivory or roots.
