This is a LetterJanuary 17th, by the reckoning of Elrond's scholars. I remain still in Imladris. The night came and went swiftly, and I rested upon the pavilion. Elwen, the mistress of Lore, spoke with me often through the star cycles. About what is coming in the darkness. What Lord Elrond has seen. I remained unwavered, however; and assured her that our time, though drawing to a close, would not end yet. We continued talking, as we walked to The Haven of Orlandion, wherein resides Erestor, Lord Elrond's chief advisor. He too joined our counsil, and we havered. As the dawn came, we parted ways; Elwen and Erestor back to their posts, and I back to the Hall of Fire; to continue my reading. Folly, for that 'burglar' of a Hobbit, Master Bilbo Baggins, quizzed me with his riddles, which I must admit; did brighten my spirit. He is a peculiar fellow. I can see why Lindir favours him. He knows many words in our tongue, and the poems of Old. He surprised me by reciting the 'Lay of Beleriand', which it was told Erestor told him. The mid of day comes, and Master Bilbo has fallen into sleep (as his custom usually is), so I mayahps have a chance to finish my book! However, Erestor's words remain in my mind.
