Plans in Motion

With his hands behind his back, Belegander walked through the village. The evening was perfect, neither too warm nor too cool. His initial encounter his mark, Heathbrand Mercer, running through his head. It had gone much better than he had hoped for.  There he was sitting in the inn located in the village…Warhorse Inn, hoping to gather news of Mercer or his wayward rat when Mercer himself arrived at the inn.

Apparently he had business with a foul looking easterner, business that lead to the exchange of a rather fat coin purse Belegander had noted. Seeing his chance, Belegander made an inquiry to Mercer’s business playing the part of an investor looking for merchants in which he could invest his rather large sum of wealth. As he expected, it was enough to peak the merchant’s interest though it pained him to have to admit his heritage but it seemed like the only way to gain Mercer’s trust.

It worked rather well Mercer seemed only all too eager to discuss his plans with Belegander. At first he thought it was a sign of the merchant’s foolishness but he realized it was more for desperation to find a kindred spirit who shared his same vision which was exactly the part Belegander played for him. He agreed with Mercer in everything, thanked him for his sacrifices in his duty as a guard and all of that silliness.

Belegander paused in walk through the village at a bridge and pondered about Mercer’s plans for Bree. His intentions with Mercer were to simply slowly drain him of his coin down to the last copper. There was nothing more pleasurable than watching those born with wealth lose everything they had and slowly wither to nothing but the beggars they so despised. However and much to his surprise Belegander was debating on changing his plan.

He couldn’t care less for the merchants of Bree land but the idea of remaking and building up the town could be quiet the opportunity. The mayor and all his ilk would have to be replaced before this town could have any hope and who better than himself to be the one with the power. Belegander grinned at the thought. Yes, he thought with a nod. He was going to help Mercer with his plans but with one minor alteration this town would be his when all was said and done.
