If Dorella was going to journey into the Misty Mountains, she was going to need some warm clothes. Dorella was a skilled tailor, but she would need to find the right materials to fashion a warm cloak and some good boots for climbing in the ice and snow.
She hoped that the Elves of Rivendell would be able to help her. She wandered back towards the Last Homely House, and strolled through its halls, finally finding herself in the Hall of Fire. There she found Elves, of course, but also a friendly Hobbit. "Warm clothes, you say?" said the Hobbit. "Well I think I might have just the thing!"
The Hobbit led her out of the Hall of Fire and into a very cluttered room, full of maps, and books, and a number of cases. He opened one of these cases, in fact a large wooden chest, and took out a warm looking robe and a number of cloaks and belts and pairs of gloves and unpaired gloves and a pair of very large boots, far too large for Dorella. Each time he found something that looked useful he would set it down on the ground, for Dorella to examine, before continuing to rummage in the large chest. Setting the boots down he said: "These belonged to an Elf I knew. He's gone West, and he won't be needing them now."
The Hobbit continued to rummage, occasionally muttering to himself as this or that item either brought back a memory or failed to do so: "How on earth did that get in here?" he might say, or "So that's where it went!"
"Thank you, thank you!" said Dorella. "You're very kind, I'm sure we have enough here!" By now the room was becoming even more cluttered with all these clothes, and Dorella, kneeling on the ground to inspect the items, was quite surrounded by clothes and materials of different shapes and colours, all of it very warm-looking, but most of it either much too small or much too large for Dorella. Only the robe looked like it might be a perfect fit.
The Hobbit looked over his shoulder as he lifted yet another pair of boots from the chest. "Are you sure? There's plenty more in here!"
"Oh well," said Dorella. "Those boots you have there might be my size..." She reached out and looked at them carefully. "Yes, yes, these are perfect, thank you! As for a cloak and the rest... I think I have what I need. If you're sure I can take these things..."
"Of course!" said the Hobbit.
"Well then, I can certainly make some adjustments and come up with something quite comfortable and warm!"
The next evening, Dorella had indeed managed to put together a nice outfit for her journey. She tried it on, and went to find the Hobbit, who was once again in the Hall of Fire. "Very nice!" he said. "I'm sure you're very warm in that cloak, especially standing by that big fire!"
"I am!" said Dorella. "I think I'd better change out of these things for now, into something a bit less warm."
"Good!" said the Hobbit. "And when you've changed, come back here and I'll tell you about my own journey into the Misty Mountains, long ago..."
