Journal, Eleventh Entry: Lithe Days

Dear Mother and Father, Rua took me to the Lithe Days Festival in Hobbiton. We stayed at the Ivy Bush Inn. The festival was at a big tree called the Party Tree. It was decorated with ribbons and lights and looked beautiful. There was dancing and lots of pies and games. At night there was fireworks. They were pretty! Some looked like a tree and some looked like stars. I stayed up late. Rua drank a lot of ale and smoked pipeweed and I think he enjoyed himself a lot. He talked a lot with Mr. Took who was selling pipeweed and Mr. Chubb who is a member of a League. We also met Mrs. Tunnelly. She was kind. A cat tried to play with her twine but I shooed the cat away. Mrs. Tunnelly made some tea and then forgot where she put her teapot, but I found it on a table. She said I was clever at finding things and asked if I could find her book. I looked a long time but I found it. It was on a rock. In the afternoon she said it was too sunny and asked if I would fetch her parasol. It was pretty with flowers on. I wish I had one just like it. While I was getting the parasol, Mrs. Whitfoot gave me a bottle of wine and said it was for Mrs. Tunnelly so I brought it to her. She let me taste some. It tasted like blackberries. Mr. Brockhouse the danceteacher taught me a special hobbitdance. It was fun. There was a longshanks lady at the festival. She was teaching people how to plant mushrooms. I told her hobbits already know how to grow mushrooms. She said hers were special. I got a packet of seeds and a pot to plant them in. Rua says we can put it in the living room at home. I liked the festival a lot. Rua says we might go next year as well. Good night, Your loving Zara
