This is entirely OOC with an undercurrent of (very) wild speculation. Spoilers for Volume I
Amdir's name literally translates to "looking up". In Sindarin, the word is associated with (if not synonymous) to "hope" and/or optimism. Aragorn's pseudonym is "Estel" which is roughly translated to "hope". Both names are also philosophical concepts discussed in the Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth. "Amdir" is hope grounded in optimisim, the expectation that the world gets better. "Estel" is the hope that comes from faith and trust in Eru. It's the hope that the universe and its inhabitants are inertly good. Aragorn's coming to the player's rescue and Amdir's fall and death, at least from a certain viewpoint, are the catalysts for the player's decision to stand and fight for the Free Peoples. Hope indeed.
