The corpse of the man you see in the back of the jail was a murder that happened at the Pony. He was found by several folk, already dead. He was robbed of coin and a weapon, a large two handed sword. He has the look of a local but no one can seem to remember his name or face. a letter was found on his person, containing the name of a dwarf called Gimles and mentions a ring that should be in the envelope but that is missing. I'll be compiling the reports tonight and will have them to the Captain in the morning.
Also be on the alert for a dark haired man with a Southron look and a blonde woman as his companion. They fled the scene and I was unable to find them. They were said to have been the first to find the victim and the man was wearing a hood. The victim's last words were 'hood, man, mail' as reported by the witnesses.

I didn't see anything. I'd only just returned to Bree from a short jaunt to the Shire with a friend, and we decided to go up to the Pony for a pint of ale, in a bit of celebration upon returning to Bree. We got up there and saw a group gathered around the body... That was it.
-Statement by Erimyl the Armorer
Upon my walk from the market, I happened upon this poor man, now dead. At the time, he still had life in him. Upon my discovery, I ran inside to get aid, finding two strangers, a woman in a blue dress, and a man in black robes. They came with me outside and the man in black attempted to heal his wounds, but they proved fatal. Folk began speculating, and I began searching for someone to help with this whole ordeal. You know the rest.
-Statement by Morski, the Dwarf
Erimyl and I have just arrived from the Shire into Bree. We were going to go to the Pony for some ale when we had seen the group of people around the corpse.
-Statement by Andelith the Armorer
I was on my way to have a drink at the pony when I saw this crowd of people around this lad lying on the ground right before the mailbox. Nobody told me what happened, only that he was dead. Some more folks came and then the watcher showed up.
-Statement by Delbert of Bree.
Time: Approximately Midnight
Victim: Unknown, local man, with shoulder length brown hair, and brown eyes.
Primary Suspect: Unidentified Male/unknown.
Location: In front of the inn's mailbox.
Be on the look out for: A few hooded folk were seen about the inn at the time of the initial investigation, it is not unlikely one of them is the killer. Be on the lookout for more information regarding these particular people.
-Official report
Cause of death was precisely six stab wounds above the right hip, each near one another. The actual cause of death, according to the wounding, was bleedout, as no vital organs were actually damaged. Judging by the angle of the wounds, the assailant was likely around the same height as the victim, or perhaps taller, as they were at a notable downward angle.
There are no defensive wounds, thus this was obviously a surprise attack. Judging by the condition of the body, this was likely not a personal attack, simply a random assault.
The murder weapons was more than likely a small, smooth dagger, as no serration was notable in the damaged flesh.
