The Grand Escape ~ Memories of the Past

Bretthera sat there on her bed, taking a break from sewing, in the back room of her little shop. She sighs a little, remembering some things. Mostly recent, but there was one that stuck through in her memories... one she would not forget for a long, long time...

---

"Miss Bretthera, are you sure you want to go through this?" asked a servant. "Cutting your hair is one thing, but running away?"

"Yes, I am sure... I can't take living like this anymore."

Bretthera sighed a bit, packing a few more dresses. "I've been living in fear for my entire life. As I've learned from you, I shouldn't be. Shouldn't have been in the first place." She closed up the bag she had packed. "And, sadly, leaving home is best for me... leaving Dale altogether is the best option, after that, even if the roads are dangerous. Then again, I could use company while travelling."

"I cannot go, miss Bretthera. He will notice me gone... you, as well... I cannot bring myself to... to take the risk you are..." the servant said.

"You heard him tell me yesterday that if I came back after running away, he will kill me himself. I don't plan on returning here... not until I know Odel is dead. I am not risking my life in staying here and I will not risk my life in returning." Bretthera replied. "It isn't worth the risk..."

"Oh... alright, miss Bretthera..."

"I wish for Odel to discover I am no longer here... but I ask that he discovers it himself. Say nothing to him about it; if he asks where I am, tell him I am preparing for the day, which is how the daily routine works... he will then come up and into my room, where he will demand why I am not yet ready... but I am counting on his realization something is missing when I do not answer. He will then see me missing when he tries to search for me... what else will happen, I cannot say." Bretthera stated. "A simple, but very well-thought out plan. Meanwhile, I will be hours away from here..."

"Where will you go?" the servant asked.

"Where ever my feet take me... where I will be safe. In other words, I care very little about my destination, but my travels will end when I feel safe." Bretthera simply responded.

The servant nodded. "I see... I wish you much luck, miss Bretthera... please take care while on the road... there are a lot of dangers out there."

"I will..."

After their conversation was finished, Bretthera slung the bag over her shoulder. "Alright... I am going now. Good luck... I will miss you..."

With that said, Bretthera opened her window and carefully climbed through, taking care not to fall as she climbed down to the ground. When her feet touched the ground, she ran towards the gates, feeling a grand sense of freedom with every step.

Finally, she would be free of Odel's abusive clutches, free of fear, free of so much pain... she would be free to live her life as she wanted...

---

Bretthera blinked, suddenly coming out of reliving the memory. She glances around, then sighs a bit, relieved that the memory was the one where she'd actually left her old home. A memory of the past that needed to be buried...
