Horgo Harfield's Journal ~ Entry 1

My home in Barleywick is quite something: the locals are already questioning my odd habits, I do believe. Though I have yet to swim, or boat – for which I fear I shall receive a great many stares.
To my shock, and joy, the famous, Mr Brablo Boffin lives in Barleywick! With one of my favourite authors – for I have read many of his works, if not all – this close to my home, I am sure to have a great deal of luck in finishing my own work.
While I cannot say that I won’t miss The Marish (why, I do believe I shall miss it a great deal, in fact), I do admit: Barleywick is tremendously beautiful, and far more peaceful than my home to the East. There is little talk of adventure here, and less talk of boating – something that provides a great contrast to that which I am used to, in The Marish, and, across the Brandywine, Buckland.

I hope to use my newfound-space, to create the museum I’ve had an urge to make for so long. Oft in the past, I could not take much of that which was given to me, for the lack of space. But now, in my new home, space is plentiful, and I hope to fill it all. I can imagine it now: jewels, braziers, toys, sculptures.
Mr Brablo has already visited me, bringing some apples, and a friendly heart. I am honoured to live near to him, and hope to prove my worth as an author of my own. He also gifted me a book – quite an interesting one – on the Drakes of Eriador.

Barleywick is my new home, really, and though I shall often visit The Marish – for my lack of close relations here – I do believe this, Barleywick, will never grow old, and distasteful. Instead, I think the opposite would happen: each moment of the day that I am outside, I am engulfed by a sense of peace.
While my boots may be seen as odd, my hobbies queer, and my Dwarf-helpers dangerous, I do believe I will make some friends here.
