The Terrible Sea
Ever have our eyes dwelt,
Across the distant east,
But beyond the high blue belt,
Lies a big and dangerous beast,
A gurgling mass of water,
Where stone may come to die,
A true and terrible slaughter,
Yet not a single cry,
Here I stand now on the shores,
Once it was a beautiful vale,
By sea devoured as a course,
The wind tells this ominous tale,
Two ancient cities once seated,
Atop the mountains behind my back,
By crushing waves they were defeated,
Of violence this beast has no lack,
Wild and endless is its hunger,
With foaming water does devour,
Ships and treasure torn asunder,
Beware its vast and ancient power!
