The Badger Beneath The Bed: Side Notes

*** 'Orcs and Elves' is a fast paced stick fighting game that Gileryn and Galeryn made up. Elves will take turns in the tole of aggressor (Orc) and the role of defender (Elf) in order to hone reflexes to dodge and parry.

If the defender successfully parries the agressors attack five or more times, the aggressor can choose to swipe at the defenders legs to try and "steal" their role. If the defender trips, the roles are switched. If not, the roles stay the same.

If the aggressor does not succeed in tripping the defender after two tries, the defender can choose to "steal" the role of aggressor by making a successful leg swipe at any time after the second failed attempt. One cycle is a switch of roles.

The one with the most "Steals" by the end of ten cycles wins. In a good mood, Gileryn and Galeryn will occasionally play to thirty cycles.

*** Luiniel is not the actual name of Gileryn and Galeryn's mother. The real Luiniel is dead. An elf named Rivondir was a close family friend of Gileryn and Galeryn's parents before the twins were even born. They knew Rivondir their entire life, and were overjoyed when his daughter Luiniel was born. Luiniel was slain by a fell spider. She snuck away from the care of her sitter to try and meet Rivondir on the path home when he returned to Mirkwood. Luiniel died extremely young. Naming the mother in this story after her was Gileryn's homage to little Luiniel.
