"Marrie... sweetheart, your supper's ready..." her mother said, walking over to the bed and kneeling down. Marrienne stirred a little bit, before she nodded at sat up, looking more tired than before she'd laid down for her nap. She also looked heavily pregnant--very heavily pregnant, at that.
"Thanks, Mom." she replied, her voice heavy with sleep.
"Sweetie, are you feeling alright? Do you want to wait to eat?" her mother asked, before leaning forward enough to put a hand on Marrienne's stomach... and smiling a little.
"They're moving a lot, Mom... I... don't think I have the stomach to eat right now..." Marrie answered, before groaning a little from pain.
"Oh, I felt those kicks! Those are two very strong children within you... they must be boys! Oh... your father would be so excited for this day..."
Then her mother vanished from sight. The next thing she knew, she was in some alley, and it was raining hard, nearing the strength of a storm. Marrie groaned again, before she felt a small trickle of something going down her thigh. "Oh, no..."
Her water had broken, and she was alone in some alley, and it was raining really hard... she was going to give birth to the babies by herself. No one to aid the delivery.
She blinked, then she looked around. Those familiar green walls... Revio's house! And she was on the bed, Revio at her side. "I've sent for the midwife, she'll be here soon!..."
Marrie nodded a bit, before letting out a groan and clutching at her belly. "They... don't want to wait!" she said, her voice very strained as she sat up a bit.
"Easy, my love... keep breathing, it'll be alright..."
Marrie nodded again, before her eyes closed tightly as she let out another pained groan. "They're coming... Revio, the babies are coming!" she moaned out, her eyes opening to see...
... a bedroom in the Prancing Pony. "It'll be okay, my dear, we're all here to help you." came a Dwarven voice from right beside her. Marrie gasped, and she looked to see someone she didn't think she would have seen.
"Miss Arrygg... w-where's Revio?..."
"He'll be here very soon, Marrie, don't worry. He won't miss this for anything in the world... he loves the three of you too much for that..." Arrygg responded.
Marrienne nodded a little, before closing her eyes and letting out a pained cry, sitting upright as she clutched at her huge belly again. "Miss Marrienne, you're doing wonderfully! The baby's crowning!"
... Miss Fairen, now?! Marrie opened her eyes before noticing yet another change in surroundings. Her childhood home... Revio at her side, Fairen in front of her.
"I'm right here, my love... it's alright..."
Marrie couldn't even reply. The reason for that? Another pained cry came from her, her eyes shut again, and all she could hear was Fairen saying, "You're still doing a wonderful job, miss Marrienne!"
Marrie felt an arm around her back, supporting her while she practically screamed in pain. "The first is almost here!" Revio stated, his tone a very happy one.
"First one?" came a very familiar voice from her other side. Marrie had no time to look, as she pierced the air with another pained scream... and the first, tiny wails came along very shortly after. "... gods, I miss hearing that... sounds just like you when you were born..."
Marrie glanced up and over to see... "Dad..." she whimpered.
"Marrie, my gods, you've really grown up... look at you, now..."
"Dad... I appreciate the words, right now... but... -shut up!-" she stated, before taking a deep breath... and screaming again, feeling her hands be taken.
"Yep, a grip just like your mother's!"
"Oh, hush!"
Marrie whimpered a little before glancing around again to see a completely new place and a very, very comfortable bed; Fairen was no longer where she was, replaced with her mother. Revio was still there, too.
But her looking around came to an end, as a long and pain-filled scream left her. "Oh, this one is coming quickly! Wrap a green ribbon around the first one's wrist, please, if you wouldn't mind?" her mother said to Revio. "There is little time otherwise!" It was only a moment after that that Revio wasn't there anymore, vanished into thin air. Marrie's eyes widened, before they shut tightly again as she screamed...
A second round of quiet wailing was the only thing she heard.
When she felt two wriggling weights on her chest, her eyes opened... full of relief, of happiness at seeing the two freshly birthed infants on her chest... only Revio at her side...
"They're..." she started off.
"... they're the most perfect children... thank you,... so much..."
"Are they...?"
"Yes... they're healthy, and strong..." Revio responded.
"... girls... or boys?..." Marrie asked, before darkness overtook the scene.
---
Marrienne woke with a start. "Marrie, are you okay? I heard shouting. What happened?" her mother asked. "Are you hungry, or thirsty?..."
... a dream. It was a dream.
"Yeah... yeah, I'm okay... That was... one hell of a dream..." Marrienne responded, before she sat upright. "... is it normal to dream of giving birth?"
Her mother just smiled and nodded. "It is normal, sweetie, I wouldn't worry about it at all. I'm glad all is well, I was worried my grandsons were giving you much more trouble, with all the shouting... and I'm relieved to hear it was a normal dream, at that!"
"Jeez, Mom..."
