~Anarya, Coirë 44~
Hiril Uilossiel told me once of how scholars and official folk like to keep an account of their doings and the histories they witness every day. So I have decided to begin my own as I find it an apt time in my life, for I am starting a new chapter, as scholars like to say. I will return close to home, working amongst the elven dwellings of Ered Luin. My family and friends of old live there, and I will be glad to be reunited with them.
It has been a good adventure to see beyond my home, but I find that delivering the letters of strangers does not warm my heart as it once did to pass messages from the fisherman who supplied our dinner, to the candle-maker who lit up our cozy home, to the gardener who planted the flowers in our yard. Worry not, for I did make a few friends who I will be sad to leave, but I will not forget them. Most of them head further East and I am a bit saddened that my own path leads westward. Yet, due to my line of work, it will be quite simple to send them letters of my own.
I would have left Imladris sooner, but as I was packing my bird things, I realized I could not really leave, for a part of me was still lost in Eregion. Yes, I mean my dove, Alagos, who was left behind by hir Vorongwe on an excursion to the south. Though I held the greatest resentment against him for his carelessness, he made his amends by gallantly offering to do all he could to find Alagos.
Thus it was that the late winter found hir Vorongwe, hir Tancamir, hiril Caethel, hir Annunghil, and I traipsing into the barren lands of Eregion. We scoured countless trees and ruins until we were led south by the tidings of elves who knew of a particular ruin, made homely by doves. It seems that my intelligent Alagos, sundered from her elven guardians last autumn, found the next most companionable elves in the area. There, the elves say she abode for some time making sweet music for them to hear as well as a family of her own. Yes, my beloved Alagos found a handsome winged partner and soon begot her own nest of dovelings.
Unfortunately, she was sorely hurt in her left wing by who knows what and was ready for no journey. So I have thus abided patiently in Imladris, waiting for her to make a full recovery. Needless to say, Alagos and her beloved were eagerly accepted into my flock once again. How Faun and the others missed Alagos! The reunion was sweet. It was my wish that Alagos’ children could have come along, but they had mated and already built their families in Eregion. So I could not ask them to leave. Alagos, though, was born near Mithlond, and like me, she will desire to return to the shores. We will be ready to depart soon for I think she is eager to take flight once more. As am I!
