Chronicles of Gwenbur: Entry 12

I do not know what to think right now. Cirdu was missing all day yesterday. I had searched for him afar, through Bree-land. I wearily stepped into the tavern and headed for my usual spot - the back room. There he was, staring into the fire.

His eyes looked... empty. I asked him many times what was the matter. He would not tell me at first, but eventually caved in and revealed all. He claimed to have slain many people within the forest of Chetwood - in a blind rage. He told me he had killed at a Blackwold camp. The brigands that dwell there are a nuisance, but I cannot help but think ill of what my husband did. If he can rage so easily, so swiftly; and then kill the way he did, he could surely do that to anybody?

Terrible memories and thoughts have lingered within his mind as of late. He confided in me. I have tried to make him feel better, to feel like he should never have to think of such thoughts again. It does not seem to have worked. After he told me what he did, I walked out and wept. I am so, so worried for my beloved. What should I do? As a wife I should be supportive of him and try to help, but I am disgusted at what he did. I do not know the full story of what Cirdu has been through before we met, or the details of his "occupation".

What I do know is that I love the man dearly. I do not wish to lose him, I do not wish to lose him like I lost Telfaras. I do not want to go through all that anguish again. I cannot bear to be without him. Something needs to be done.
