In the Maker's Hall, Thorin's Hall, Under the Blue Mountains....
Skegrym says, 'Can we help you? You seem to be lost'
Skegrym observes the woman with suspicion and inspects the woman's scanty attire
Ynel seems to require a moment before she returns from a far-looking gaze into the distanse, and zooms her pupils on the dwarf who stands by. She bats her lashes to clear her vision and focus on him.
Skegrym says, 'You'll freeze to death in that get up!'
Skegrym shakes his head....the mysterious ways of Men!
You say, 'Oh...yes, I would..had I not a cloak waiting in the vault. And in here it is quite warm. Even hot, in the next hall. Very pleasant, I'd call it.'
Skegrym shifts his heavy shield and pack into an easier position
Skegrym says, 'Oh yes, in here it's fine! Warmer than a drake's backside. But surely you didn't come all this way through snow and ice just to get warm by our forges'
Ynel looks the dwarf over curiously. "No, I did not. I came here with a purpose...that I have yet to find an answer to. My name is Ynel. I am a merchant from the town of Bree."
You bow deeply before Skegrym.
Skegrym bows deeply before Ynel.
Skegrym says, 'Well I'm glad to see that courtesy is not lost in those savage lands'
Skegrym grins
Ynel smiles "It is well hidden, but not entirely lost.." she nods and waits for him to go on.
Skegrym says, 'Allow me to introduce myself. Skegrym Finnvariul, Spice merchant and herbalist. At your service and your family's of course'
You say, 'Oh! A herbalist.. Are there herbs to be found here, even on the snow-topped mountains?'
Skegrym says, 'There are many treasures beneath the snow...waiting for spring though to show their uses'
Skegrym removes his helm in the protected halls
You say, 'Sounds almost poetic... But then again, if there are grand Halls like this, hidden under rock, why not wondrous herbs hidden under snow too? But still....I am in the look for engineers and crafters, I am.'
Skegrym smiles
Skegrym says, 'We are Dwarves! Many of us count engineering as essential! We crafted the great mirrors of Khazad Dum! Bridges and roads down the millenia! What great proof do you require?'
Skegrym raises an eyebrow
Ynel smiles "And next thing among your list of endeavors....I wish you to craft another legendary piece of work. No Bree-land craftsman has such skill and expertize for my task. And that is why I am here. I have come a long way with the hope of passing your best craftsmen a work order that requires very special skill and though. But I do not know anyone in these halls, and my work requires....well...it will likely not be so simply created. It may take time and more than one a dwarf."
Skegrym ays, 'Now you have made me curious. What is it that you wish to be crafted?'
Ynel holds her breath as if hesitating to say it outloud and to let the throught out of her chest. But when she sys it, she speaks with lifted volume and pride to her voice that carries throguh the hall.
Ynel says, 'The Great Grinder of Bree! The grandest meat-mill that has ever been made!"
Skegrym frowns
Skegrym says, 'Meat...not ore'
Ynel says, 'Yes! Meat! And I want it to grind with such a volume, that the ground will shake in a mile's ratius, and it's roaring sound will be heard atleast as far!"
Skegrym says, 'I see'
Skegrym says, 'Won't that noise be offensive to your people there?'
You say, 'No. Not when it begins to grind weath and well-beign to the peoele of Bree. See...Sadly...we have no ore or richess in Bree-land. We only have poverty...That wont do! And what else we have? Boars...of which Bree is famous of. It is my intention, to turn those boars into profit. And to lift up Bree from it's slumber, to see better days.'
Skegrym 'A Pork,grinder! Now I get it!'
Skegrym looks around at the well -ordered halls, gleaming floors, prosperous Dwarves
Enkili looks over at Skegrym. Though they haven't got a meat mill, they sure have resources and materials to come up with one, he wagers.
Skegrym says, 'Well...better ask....how many boars per day?'
You say, 'That I cannot say yet...See..I am not exactly a crafter. I do not know what is even possible. I woudl be very glad to speak of the vitals and details of the reat Grinder, with the very best of your engineers here in Thorin's Hall.. Sadly... I know none. Perhaps you can help me? Then...I will ofcourse need the skills in the stout hands, to make these plans and drawings a reality.'
Enkili does some calculations in his head, how the machinery would be transported all the way to Bree.
Skegrym says, 'I'm really a herbalist and merchant...yet in our Great Forge hall we have engineers. And perhaps Master Enkili knows more about such machines. I'm skilled in that, as are many here. Yet armor is hardly a grinding machine''
Ynel nods meekly "And engineer likely would know... And ofcourse metalsmiths will have to be heard, in the process of the planning..."
Skegrym says, 'And just as well! What do you think, Master Enkili?'
Enkili scratches his chin again. He is a metalsmith indeed but is he good enough? Of course, this brief insecurity is not mentioned out loud. He simply nods: This is doable.
Skegrym nods
Skegrym says, 'Now...the contract. Most important! Have you the authority to make a deal?'
Skegrym considers the various subsections and riders that such a contract will require
You say, 'If you require no further authority than money, then yes. I have it. Depending on the cost of the machine, which I hope to be determined when the plans and drawings are ready, I am prepared to pay a hefty amount in advance.'
Enkili has never made such a deal but the customs and proceedings are not lost on him. The document to sign agreement and exchange of both parties would be very long, if it is completed.
Skegrym agrees with Enkili
Skegrym says, 'And transport also must be arranged - during winter, the auroch carts are slow and not reliable as to schedule'
You say, 'Ofcourse. In fact.. I woul be very happy to welcome a group of craftsmen to Bree, to work this item to it's full glory, in the stead where it will once stand and Grind.'
Skegrym says, 'To Bree! Are there forges there to equal our own?'
Skegrym looks extremely doubtful
You say, 'More than that and many times! Else I would not be here at all! But I imagine it to be quite large and heavy... It likely wont be easily transpored. So it might have to be crafted at the place.'
Skegrym ponders
Skegrym says, 'Bree is hardly just over the hill, yet, given suitable payment, it might be done. And I take your point. Better to set it running there'
Enkili says, 'We must gather and use some of our finest so the machine is lasting and do regular maintanances, brother.'
You say, 'If there is another way, ofcourse I will trust your expertize. I only offer this option, and ofcourse I am prepared to pay all the expenses.'
Skegrym says, 'With drawings, materials, labour costs, etc'
Enkili dips a feather in a small bottle and starts drawing up a contract.
Skegrym says, 'Yes...don't forget injury clauses...funeral arrangements...ample ale. Next of kin notification...double time on holidays...the right to refuse substandard ores'
You say, 'I'd like to prepare a contract of engineering first, just for the planning. This is not a mere toy that I wish to be produced after all. I'd liek to see the plans first, and leave my own mark on them, if possible, before I make an order on it.'
Skegrym says, 'the Dwarves of Dale produce toys. We produce works to last the age'
Enkili says, 'Yes, yes, this should definitely be part of the deal. Lots of ale. How should we calculate cost of our iron? By the wagon? By the box? By the distance?'
You giggle uncontrollably.
You say 'You are way ahead of yourself, Mr. Enkili!
Skegrym nods at Engli
Skegrym says, 'Yes, he has a most admirable and practical mind'
Enkili he blushes and mutters and hides away behind the scrolls unsuccesfully: So be it, lady. We will go away and prepare our drawings and plans first and bring them back to you.
Skegrym pretends not to notice the other Dwarf's discomfort
You say, 'But yes! IF all etaisl are agreed upon, there will be ale and food and music, all that Bree has to offer in great quantities, for as long as the projct takes!'
Skegrym says, 'Oh now that sounds very good. When do you require the drawings?'
Skegrym beams
Enkili smiles at Skegrym. Such a project will inspire and motivate them. As well as bring them closer.
Skegrym says, 'Indeed it should form great community spirit'
Ynel smiles "I am not in a haste. I am prepared to wait atleast for a week."
Enkili says, 'Are you staying nearby meanwhile?'
Enkili asks partly out of politeness and partly out of curiousity
You say, 'Yes, myself and my comrade are staying in Vendóm for the time being. His name is Nash. I regret that he is not here, so that I could introduce him. But all in due time.'
Skegrym says, 'Very well, we can bring the plans to you there, once all is prepared'
Skegrym has a feeling that this meat mill will be the source of great income
You say, 'I am very grateful for your assistanse in this matter! As my comrade and I will be staying a while, I hope you do not mind me asking....if there is a tavern that would offer even further hospitality? Time runs slow when you are waiting for something, as you know.'
Skegrym says, 'Oh indeed, allow us to escort you'
