The ruin that is Tharbad

The ruins of Tharbad

Looking down towards the river Oronir sees before him Tharbad. The land of Tharbad is almost flat, with sluggish waters tending to spread into Fenland. Above Tharbad the river forks, with both branches having converged from out of a network of swamps, pools and eyots. Lilykind sees a waterbirds descending to the river.Tharbad bridge
Remembering his long and dangerous journey to the Breelands three years ago, he stares into the distance while preparing Lilykind to what to expect, “ Tharbad was once a strong and vibrant city and it survived wars and the Great plague but a few decades ago the great floods came crashing down, devastated Enedwaith following the Fell Winter. There is only so much a city like Tharbad could take. There are still inhabitants but mostly vagabonds, thugs and other unscrupulous kind. But It is all we got to resupply.”
Lilykind looks up at Oronir with concerned eyes.

Entering the ruined city

The party walks their horses into the ruined city, the dirty and angry looking people look up with disdain at the uniformed party but none dare to make trouble…yet.

“Stay close Lilly, these are not kind people.”, Oronir motions for Cpt Torban” keep the men in defending marching order.”
Lilykind feels dirty and tired but at this point she doesn't really care. Wordlessly she dismounts only because she notices the group dismounting. She is so tired that most conversation between the men of her group are unheard, as if it is all happening  in a haze or dream.
“Cpt Torben, you join us with a squire’ Oronir orders in a low voice,”LT. Harris, keep guard at the horses, these men will steal what they can see.” Lilykind listens to Oronir’s orders before asking, "What shall I do then? Look for supplies?"

The shady market

“Well, we have some daylight left so lets find a market, of sorts Lily, perhaps we can procure some uncommon herbs and food.” Lilykind looks around at the men, "I can surely make some mixtures for wounds. Most bandages of the men need cleaning and reapplying.“

Moving passed some grim looking men and women they finally  come to a small square with some people clinging to wares in hopes they can sell them rather than get stolen.

Lilykind looks around at the herbs in her healing bag,”Burdock, stinging nettle, dandelion, and others that would help.” She spots a dwarf, dressed in murky colours and a breathe foul up to a mile off. Lilykind argues with the dwarf about the price for the herbs. Lilykind sighs thinking that when they were in gondor, it wouldn't matter, but now money is short.
Cpt Torban approaches Oronir,”We have secured drinking water and food for another week sir. One of squires has also found the rickety ‘inn’ you mentioned would be here about. It seems more of a tavern at best.”
Nodding calmly, Oronir grabs Lilykind by the arm,”We need to go lily, If we stay too long in one place we will become targets for thieves and troublemakers. For these people times are harsh as the winter wind.” Lilykind notices that two squires are already  threatening some burly men stalking forward.

The Broken Finger Tavern

The group turns one alley after another, getting slightly lost in the process and having to intimidate more than a couple of ruffians. Finally to come to a place the “locals” call the inn.

The inn is nothing more than a roof over their heads and a room for 3 that is to be shared by 6 while the rest of the group guards the horses in turn. The knights are at a table in the common room and Oronir motions Lilykind to sit by the fire, nodding to a repaired but still wobbly chair.
Lilykind holds a cup of boiling broth in both hands, "Did the knights get enough food? Rest too?"
“I think Cpt Torban has them sorted. Have a seat Lily, enjoy the rest, Enedwaith is only a couple of days away.”
Lilykind sits down thanking him with a smile. "I"m nervous. With all this effort, shall Shady tavernReyneth be there? I"m just nervous. Apprehensive, I guess"
“While you were tending the wounded squires I managed to get word of mouth about the road ahead. It will not calm your nerves i am afraid.”
Lilykind's smile fades into a serious frown, "Why? Is the road evil? what have you heard?'
“The Greenway near the Enedwaith river has been blocked by Goblinoid fiends. We may need to find a way around it.”
Lilykind whispers, "Goblins...their gross laughing rings in my ears. Which way will we go?" Lilykind pulls a map our of her bags.
Oronir stares in the fire, the red glow reflected in his eyes make him seem Angry.
Snapping out of it Oronir spreads Lilykind's map on the small table and Lily places a book on top to keep it from curling.
“This map is not very accurate I fear, nor is mine for that matter. Neither do I dare hire a guide here that may or may not know a trail, an honest person is as hard to find here as a good thought in the head of an Orc fiend.”
Lilykind sits up straight and with a determined look in her eyes and a firm jaw set says, "I'm ready. I'll be wise..." But in her heart she hopes to not make a foolish choice that will ruin or injure a knight, people who are just trying to help her. Still apprehensive, "Hope we find her unharmed.”
“We will find a trail Lilykind. But caution will be our ally.”
Oronir wishes her to focus on the goal ahead and not worry too much and so asks,”How will we recognise Reyneth?"
“She is tall, but small for an elf maiden. Her hair is a light color of brown...maybe even blond and Her eyes are blue and she speaks elvish often, but I’ve heard her speaking some awful language she said she learned from sailors in Dol Amroth”
Chuckling Lilykind blurts, “for an elf, she can be a little rough.” But then her mood changes quickly,”I hope she looks the same....like, not maimed.”
Oronir looks expressionless at Lilykind. He knows full well what happens to prisoners of goblinkind. This woman, used to a life of nobles, a life Oronir has no love for, has seen many harsh realities in a short time. She seems to have lost some of her noble poshness and Oronir has thus not the heart to be frank to her about the situation.
Lilykind 's heart becomes heavy but tries to stay focused. "Stay focused, Lily" she tells herself
“Lets get some sleep lilykind, I see most knights have turned to the room.”
Lilykind nods and adds, "I need to mix some herbs first though.”
