Guthstyr crashed down on the floor of the inn and remained semi-conscious for longer period of time. He dreamt of Haystack running through the Vale meadows. Guthstyr was calling to him, asking him to stop, following him but when Guthstyr managed to get close enough to almost touch Haystack then he dashed off again. Gythstyr tripped over uneven surface of meadow and when he stood up there was only wide trail of blood leading to distance. Then suddenly Guthstyr heard knocking. Guthstyr opened his eyes and realised he was sitting in chair in his room. The knocking repeated louder now.
"Who is it? What you want?" panted Guthstyr in pain. The door of his room opened and he saw young woman standing behind the door. "I am trying to rest here. Get out!"
"I am sorry sir. My name is Noreen. I heard Mr. Butterbur calling for healer and I have some skills which may lessen your pain. Can I look at your wounds?"
"Ah you are the healer? You look very young for healer."
"I am not exactly healer but I have skills and beside it's important to examine your wounds quickly. How did you came by to these wounds?"
"I had urgent business in Barrow-Downs."
"Ah I see. Then I will clean your wounds and bandage them. You definitely must be seen by healer. Barrow-Downs wounds tend to be nasty and poisonous at least."
Norren worked quickly and thoroughly. She washed the wounds with clean water and wrapped them in strips and Guthstyr's cloak which she torn not long before. "Now there it is. Go and lay down in your bed. You need rest. I will personally fetch the healer. Good Night."
"Good night and thank you." said Guthstyr from his bed and soon her dozed off back to his restless dream.
Guthstyr felt sharp pain in his left thigh. He quickly open his eyes and saw middle-aged woman leaning over him inspecting his body carefully and spreading healing salve here and there. Guthstyr sharply drawn air into his lungs.
"Lay still will you!" said the woman. " You were stupid enough to venture to Barrow-Downs and lucky enough to get back from there. Be brave enough to endure little pain as your atonement for your recklesness!" The healer gave Guthstyr something to drink and numb his discomfort. He was sleepy again. "Thank you for your help good woman. I feel better now. I don't require your assistance any more."
"You be quiet and let me work unless you want to let your wounds fester. Then you will have just little chance to get though the end of the week. And don't you kind me. I expect full payment for my services and Mr. Butterbur as well. We will talk about it later!" The healer continued her work and soon Guthstyr drifted of back to sleep.
Guthstyr woke up feeling very hungry. His wounds still hurt but not as much as they used to. He managed to get up and hobbled towards large cabinet. He changed his clothes and soon he was on his painful way down to the locale.
"Are you well my sir? "asked the innkeeper. Guthstyr nodded and ordered some mead and bread with butter and cheese. The innkeeper brought the food to the table where Guthstyr sat asd politely said: "Pardon me sir. I know that this in probably not the best time to ask but over the time of you recovery you have acquired some debts which you need to settle." After short discussion Guthstyr learned that he spent almost all his coins and all he has left is just handful of silver coins which could get him through another week but then he was broke.
The innkeeper said: "We here are not bad people here. I know that this expense was unfortunate and unexpected. If you are short of coins I can point you to several people who would be interested in your help."
It was very unpleasant situation Guthstyr landed in. He needed coins for new horse to get him to the Vale as the roads weren't safe for traveller on foot. The new horse wasn't cheap at all in Bree. This meant he has to stay in Bree for longer time, much longer than he liked and to pay for renting room and some food while he was here.
There were four jobs available in Bree at that time a farmhand, a cook, a hunter and helper of watchers the - law protectors within Breeland. The first option sounded very promising however when he leant the coin Guthstyr would earn a week he just waved his hand and thanked the farmer and walked away. The cook profession included cooking meat which was something unthinkable. The same was being hunter which was very revolting and against Guthstyr's nature. And so Guthstyr stood soon before second-watcher Heathstraw asking for details of watcher helper post.
