North Downs: Bridges Burning

"You see." The voice murmured softly and he could feel he freezing embrace of its presence as he looked down from the hill towards the bridge that reached over the span. "You bring nothing but misery in your wake. Shouldn't have come here. Wouldn't they have been better off? I'm starting to think you enjoy this."

"Be quiet." He growled looking down towards his hand only to realize he was in no dream.

"Think I can only get to you in your dreams? Your sleep deprived state makes it easy. You cannot be rid of me, Rhaug." The voice whispered through a melodic laugh that sent a chill down his spine. He shut his eyes praying and hoping that when they'd open the fiend would be gone. It was not so.

"You could have left them in peace, they would have been happier for it. Now look what you have done." The voice continued and his head turned sharply as he caught a shadow by the corner of his eye but there was nothing there.
"Everything you touch, you break. Everything you care for, you harm. The span is still near. I could give you a push." He heard a cackle in his mind and felt an odd pressure against his back. Turning around fully he glanced about, his face pale and gripped with fear when he saw no one.

"No one can help you. No one wants to help you. You are worth nothing to no one. End it."

He took a slow step back trying his best to wake when he felt the fiend's words strike deeper than he would have liked but he was already awake. A hard breath was drawn "I will... Be rid of you fiend. I will find you... And I will put an end to you." He hissed through bared, gritted teeth.

"Not if I end you first, Rhaug."
