It was clear that there were two factions in the Lodge with very different views of what may be happening up at the Ironspan. More specifically around the intentions of the new arrivals towards the Lossoth, did they come to trade or demand tribute? and so opposing strategies were being discussed.
It seemed that Yrjana, the leader, had to tread carefully in the matter given the division among his people. Yonas was in no doubt about the hostile intentions, this was obvious from when the elves first met him. Likewise, Yonas was firmly of the opinion that although the Chief agreed with him, Yrjana needed to to be seen to consider both sides and take into account all opinions within the Lodge before reaching a final conclusion. Thus the presentation of the captive was potentially awkward for him and the three companions stepped back allowing Yrjana to handle things in his own away.
The subtle non-verbal communication between Yonas and Yrjana led Elveaner to believe Yonas was correct in his assumption and that they had the Chief's unspoken (and non-attributable) blessing to fully investigate as they saw fit.
After suitable food and rest the three set out by sled with Yonas back to his little outpost. They returned the sledge to his friends and headed into the side valley to get to the bottom of the mystery.
