North Downs: The wait

All had fallen quiet again after the man had left him to seek a healer, only the rough wheezing cutting through the silence until another less welcome sound filled the silence.

"He shall not return."

He turned his head to the right feeling a cold breath against his ear as the voice spoke. A sharp breath fell from his flared nostrils and eyes widened as panic slowly took root once more, a feeling he dreaded to have returned.

"He knows." The voice murmured. "You remember the name, he shall know yours. You did not fool him."

This time the chilling air trailed against his left ear and his head turned sharply and startled as something appeared to stir within the shadows playing against the wall. Sitting up straight his attention was pulled down to the warm broth he had been given, the mug brought up and a careful sip taken to distract himself with the pain in his throat as he swallowed to silence the ghost that haunted him.

"He will return." He spoke out loud to himself after a short while to reassure himself though the doubt had already placed its hooks into the back of his mind, maybe he wouldn't return. Maybe this cave would become his tomb after all. "No..." He muttered, shaking aside the thought. "I must find her... Again... I must.. Apologize... I must-..." His words were spoken slowly and painfully, interrupted by a sharp cough that tore his throat. The man keeled over, his hand covering his mouth to try and muffle the sound emitted through the fit of coughs.

As he finally fell silent the man laid himself down, his sword kept within arm's reach, eyes towards the cave opening as he now waited. His breath was slow and shallow, each intake of air sending a sharp pain through his chest, one part of him hoping that it would all end soon but another part dismissed it. He had unfinished business. He still had to find her again and mend his wrong doings.

His eyes slowly opened at a noise outside and then a voice, he did not know how much time had passed. His hand clutched the hilt of the blade, he pushed to sit but with no success. A delirious stare was directed towards the blurry figure ahead of him "You return.."
Another mutter of words he didn't understand, but he recognized the voice. His weapon hand sank back to the ground, he felt himself be pushed up to a seat but not by his own power. There was another, and his eyes were quickly drawn towards a familiar voice.
