Hymn of the Pillar

A letter arrives at the desk of the Lady of the Pillar [*], written in Doriathren of old. The flowing Tengwar handwriting of Ealendil is quite distinguishable.

With the letter follows a small package containing score sheets carefully tied together with golden ribbons [**].

To the Lady of the Pillar

Dear Lady Manadhlaer

I take great delight and comfort when thinking of you, your company and friendship is indeed a blessing sent by Eru. These days are always busy and it brings me sorrow that we so seldom get the chance to meet that often. Soon, we will be traveling to Lórien, and we will be further apart, yet always close in mind and heart.

Some weeks ago, at the end of Narwain, when you were installed in office as the new Lady of the Pillar, I inquired about a hymn to honor the Order of the Pillar. Alas, it seemed none existed or could be found at the time. I have indeed gone to great length and searched the archives thoroughly, yet found nothing suitable. Thus, I did as I promised you, and composed one that I think captures the spirit and the achievements of the Order of the Pillar.

Please have a look at the score sheets I sent to you.

If I may, could I please ask of you my Lady to write the lyrics to it. I am too humble to dare such an attempt myself, and it may not be right of me to try to clothe all that the Pillar stands for in mere words. But you my Lady, so well-versed in the written language and knowledgeable of the ways and history the Order is indeed the one to accomplish it.

I look forward to an opportunity to present you the hymn, perhaps at a more formal gathering where others of our house could enjoy it too.

As always, de vellon nîn n'uir
