To Firithain, son of Théohain
Fenmarch, Westemnet, the Riddermark
Dearest Firithain,
I am much relieved to finally be able to write to you, as silence is one of the most intolerable things between people. I trust you are safe and sound, and have arrived in time to see your father before he passes on. I hope you will get the time you need with him, to find peace in whatever fate lies ahead for him.
I am well. Please do not worry for me. I am keeping mostly to Hookworth, and only venturing forth if I have an escort on the road. Spring is here in full, and I wish you could see the sublime beauty that Bree-land has to offer. I hope you may return by summer, as it is the loveliest season of all, especially with the river and lake just outside your door! Every man should have a chance to sit and fish in the cool of the evening, listening to the crickets and frogs sing their song.
Jack seems very confused about not finding Hawthorn at the stables. It is rather amusing, but a little sad at the same time.
Do you remember my dear friend, Leoffrith, that I told you about? Oh, of course you do! You two met on the road! He is come safely home! He and Miss Adriellyn enjoyed your brief company. We all miss you. Inayat, Aeroden, Ashwyneth, and all your other friends.
I hope you write again soon. My heart will be anxious to know that you're well and safe. Please tell me if there is any news of your father's condition, or anything else you want to share.
Yours,
Brynleigh
