Sitting with the afternoon sunlight streaming over the table she is sat at, Orlenne has a small smile on her face as she writes, the hard lines usually visible softened slightly as the quill moves fluidly across the parchment.
I can hardly remember when I have felt so content with myself. You are probably asking yourself why, or perhaps you might already have guessed. I am still wondering myself. To get to the point, Svikt did take me on that picnic. It was wonderful weather, the sun shining and we walked outside of Bree to a small bridge, south of the larger one that leads to the West Gate. No railings on this bridge, so we could dangle our feet over the edge. I felt like a girl again.
The food wasn't the most inspiring, Svikt had gotten hold of dried sardines and that was lunch! Though the wine he brought with him rather made up for it. It has such a distinct flavour. Not much of a winedrinker am I, but I can see myself getting used to drinking this Isenwine! He was quite forthcoming about his past, telling me things he said he would rather not have admitted to. Something about a woman and other shady dealings. I won't go into details. I thought it was quite brave of him to talk to me about these things, someone he hardly knows. It may have been the wine, but he insisted that he wanted me to know him. As he talked, I felt myself warming to this man, con artist, slippery dealer, trickster though he admits to being.
We sat for quite a long time afterwards, just talking and throwing pebbles into the river before we returned to Bree. Yes, I am flattered by the attention. I also have my suspicions about his intentions towards me. He is a self-admitted con artist! Though what he might hope to gain from me, a simple seamstress is something I can't imagine. It can't be material gain, for though I have made a name for myself and can get by on my earnings, I hardly think it would be enough to satisfy a criminal intent on robbery.
On the other hand, he hasn't made a move to kiss me, though I get the impression he would like to. This might just be my ego flattering itself of course and if that is all he is after, that and anything else that might ensue from a kiss, then he will have to find another! I have not told him about John yet, though I plan to at the next opportunity. If there is one. What has got into me? I am already planning what to say on our next meeting? I am assuming there will be one?!
With a small sigh, Orlenne puts down the quill, shaking her head slightly. She pats the pocket of her dress, giving a nod as she feels the reassuring weight of the scissors against her hand, then closes the book and exits the room.
