Part 1.2: Giant Spiders

I have been bitten by a spider. It hurts quite badly, but I guess in the grand scheme of things it is nothing compared to almost being decapitated by a bandit the other night. Although, it was a rather large spider. They seem to be pouring out of the old cave now and with the town upside down after the bandit attack we do not need people getting killed off by giant spiders either. So when Atli asked, we went to check it out. Somehow it seems a less unsettling task to take on compared to burying the dead.

We had slept a night at the hunting lodge, and at least for the first time in a few days we had a nice warm meal. Toby certainly has some cooking skills, I am very envious… I really should learn to cook, but it seems there are always more pressing matters – or more interesting things to do!

It was a bit weird to sleep at the lodge instead of in my own bed. I just can’t face being in our house on my own, it being all burnt, and the wooden frames destroyed. The smoke stench is too much, and I must admit it is nice to have the boys nearby. I feel safer that way.

Anyway, I got bitten by a giant spider when we were in the old cave… It is hard to use a bow inside a cave. Maybe I need to learn to use those fancy knives Toby gave me. I thought I would use them for skinning and such, but maybe it would be useful to learn a few ways of defending myself at close range, because this is the second time I’ve been in real trouble at close range. Then I think about it and whether this is necessary… I mean, my fighting is over now, isn’t it? We defended ourselves against the attack and we have beaten the spiders back. I am sure I will have to get back to charm-making as soon as mum and dad are back, we will need to rebuild the business, so likely I will not get a second to use my bow.
