A Pleasant Surprise

"And don't think it'll be just a picnic! There are dangers to be found there," he had told her, and she believed him entirely. It never was a picnic when she followed him. He was such a dour man. Yet, somehow, she knew, begrudgingly, that she enjoyed the adventures she had found. Granted, they came with things she absolutely did not enjoy...but she did like to be a helpful companion, even when he made it hard. Once they arrived, he sent her over the top of a hill to scout. She came back with nothing to report...only to find him sitting on a blanket, a basket on the ground nearby. "I...may have lied about this not being a picnic." She had to smile.
