Lot's happened since I've been in Bree.
I met a woman named Maedryn, she delivered a letter to me that had gotten lost in the post. I guess it slipped out of the mailman's bag and got caught on the wind, maybe. She found me in Combe, being the bearer of bad news. I admit, hearing about my brother's death makes me want to return home more than anything else. But doing so would put my family in so much trouble, even though it wouldn't be their fault, and I wouldn't want to risk that.
She stayed and chatted with me for a while. Feels like forever ago now. A few days have passed since then, and I saw her again in the Prancing Pony today. We played a drinking game with a fellow named Whitmore, someone I had never met before. And I don't think she had ever met him before either. He was nice, if a bit... I want to say, he was a bit more closed-off than we were, but I'm used to people being more closed-off than I am. I consider them both my friends now, though.
Mae and I raced to Combe, but she beat me. I blame it on the armour I wear, because she wasn't wearing any at all! She makes fun of me for it, but it's really all that I have, and I don't think I can afford anything to be made for me, and I definitely don't want to be seen wearing some potato sack that I picked up at one of the stalls around here. I'm a bit bigger-boned than a lot of these tailors are used to for women! I've got wide enough shoulders to wear men's clothes. I need to look into getting some proper clothes. Mae thinks so too.
