When it rains

Found:

For perhaps only the second time since I stumbled across him in the Refuge of Edhelion, Rowan was awake and out of bed before dawn. This has nothing to do with me being awake and busy at early hours, nor his own particular wish to be out of bed. No, this was because it rained. The roof, it seems, has sprung a leak and, both to my amusement and annoyance, the water drip-dripped down upon his face... shortly before a large hole opened up and doused the poor man, and the bed, entirely!

The startled yell was quite a surprise. The image of him still half-asleep, half-naked and utterly soaked from head to foot was... well, he wasn't best pleased when I laughed, though he did get over it. Eventually.

Deciding that I'd not be much help with the repairs, he "sent" me out of the house and into town. I do find it adorable that he believes he could send me anywhere, but one should let a man have his dreams. Especially when he's already had such a poor start to the day.

So, into town I went and there I met Zurri. It would seem that Gregwald has yet to find him. Alas, he also seems to be having difficulty finding people willing to join him on this journey to Erebor. With Kestrea remaining behind and myself forbidden from going - the thought alone is enough to annoy me. Best not to dwell. - it may well be that Rowan and the dwarf will travel alone.

I returned later in the afternoon with some sausages and potatoes. Whilst Rowan toiled on with the roof, I made a start on the preparations and somehow managed to cut my thumb on the vegetable knife. That ended my foray into cookery for today! He was quite adamant that he didn't want blood all over his dinner, though I suspect he just didn't want me cutting anything else by accident.

Regardless, he did the cooking tonight. The potatoes burned on one side, and one of the sausages exploded, but it was otherwise quite a tasty meal! Alas, that I'll be cleaning sausage guts off the wall for the next few days. He can get the bits in the rafters.

It may take a few days to fix this hole in the roof, he tells me. There's a missing something or a broken thingy. I listened, but it didn't make a vast amount of sense to me. He seems to know what he's doing and it's keeping him busy, so I'll not complain. In the meantime, we're having to use the far less comfortable bed in the spare room.

I hope it doesn't rain tonight.
