I've spent most of the day in translation. For once, it was actually a rather interesting piece documenting a certain centuries-old war from a perspective other than the victor. I've no doubt the scholars in Bree will flap like startled birds at the very idea of their historical heroes being seen as naught more than a bloodthirsty band of land-stealing conquerors, which will bring me no end of amusement.
People so often forget that there is more than one side to any tale.
Luckily, there is more than one volume. This is going to take me a few weeks to work through, so I'll have plenty to keep me entertained.
Unfortunately, come late afternoon, I received a message from Rickstan that the dinner has had to be postponed for a few days. No details were given as to why, but I assume I'll be informed as to when, or even if, it will go ahead soon enough.
This, however, did not leave me much by way of options for my evening meal. I'd no time to go shopping and not enough supplies in the house to make anything substantial. So, slightly charred cheese on toast. It could have been worse, I suppose. At least mildly scorched cheese can still be quite tasty.
I've been watching the horses closely of late. Steel and the mare - I really need to find a name for her - have been getting along wonderfully. They're practically inseparable when out in the field together. Placid as she is, she largely follows his lead. He, massive and cantankerous as he can be, is adorably protective of her. I begin to wonder if there will be a foal to raise in the future.
Things to look forward to.
