~The Song of Tinnurion~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In the days of old,
When the world was young,
Cold waters untried,
From strange mountains sprung,
The trees grew taller,
Cross lands far and wide,
Like ceaseless pillars,
Standing side by side,
And above it all,
The blanket of night,
With no sun or moon,
Only fair starlight,
In Beleriand,
Where Elves walked in bliss,
A peace and quiet,
That no longer is,
Elwë Singollo,
Who was there crowned king,
King Elu Thingol,
Of whom bards still sing,
Melian the wise,
Who came from the West,
She was a true queen,
By the Valar blessed,
There in Eglador,
By Esgalduin,
They dwelt in such glee,
As has ever been,
But from Valinor,
Across the great sea,
Came a great shadow,
Out of fear fled he,
Melkor he was called,
Or Morgoth Bauglir,
To Angband he went,
A dark fortress drear,
From the north they came,
Orcs in great number,
Set to bring sorrow,
Disturb the night’s slumber,
In shining armor,
Of silver and steel,
The host of Thingol,
Had true fighting zeal,
With white banners raised,
And lances in hand,
They marched to the orcs,
Who stained our good land,
Long was the battle,
Fierce was the fight,
But orcs could not win,
From sheer Elven might,
But victory stale,
For Denethor died,
The Nandor were lost,
Gone Green-Elven pride,
And lo, to the shore,
The siege had begun,
The Falas were trapped,
The war was not won,
But then from the west,
Came ships in pursuit,
The Noldor had come,
Fëanor the brute!
O kinslayers all,
With blood on their hands,
Set foot at our shores,
Brought war to our lands,
And lands they took too,
No pardon no grace,
Settling wherever,
They could find a place,
After their coming,
A great light was lit,
It pushed out the night,
The sun, they called it,
But much did we hate,
This great flaming eye,
That shut out the stars,
That burned out the sky,
The world had now changed,
Peace and quiet gone,
We blamed the Noldor,
Who came with the dawn,
With hatred and will,
They sought to make war,
Challenge a Vala,
And settle a score,
But by an oath bound,
And by promise kept,
Their doom lay ahead,
O the minstrels wept,
By their own doing,
Their failure in all,
Beleriand fell,
And Melkor grew tall,
And that is why we,
Stay out of the sun,
Cursed be the Noldor,
We endlessly shun!
