Orcs and Dwarves

Travel Diary, Day 7

Met a fellow called Alcaron who was heading East, and offered to accompany me down the road a bit. I should mention he is an elf but not at all strange, though he definitely used some elf-magic because he could see in the dark like you would not believe.

He asked if I minded making a stop and of course I did not, so we broke off the road to speak with a dwarf by the name of Refr, who was by way of being acquainted with Alcaron. There was some bad business afoot I can tell you, because some wicked dwarfs had took up with a band of orcs (which Alcaron told me are like large goblins; we saw some later but I am getting ahead of myself).

I was glad to have the company I can tell you, because these dwarves were not interested in talking. I am sorry to say we had to slay a few, but it was them or us.

I still don't like that much, even after what we saw and they way they were coming after us. I guess you can do a thing that's right but still not feel very good about it.

Anyway, it was clear right quick that the dwarfs were indeed trading with the orcs, and if that does not send a shiver down your spine I don't know what will. We were in among these old ruins which did not look like dwarf ruins to me; Alcaron says they were built by the men who used to live in those lands. He must be a bit of a historian or a very well traveled Elf.

The ruin was all flooded from sort of underground spring and this is where I saw my first "Tarkrip" orc. I hope that is the last orc I ever see because he was tall and terrifying to look at. Still, it would have been just wrong of me to let Alcaron fend for himself so I helped drub a few with me club and I was able to take some fine hits on the ones with the bows, by flinging some loose rocks at them.

All in all I was glad to have done it; the dwarfs were able to share some fine stories with me afterwards, and Alcaron is still about somewhere. I am hopeful he can tell me some stories about the place he is from, which he said is not too far from here. Imagine meeting a whole crowd of elfs!
