Chronicle Summary
Chronicle Content
" 'Always my days have seemed to me too short to achieve my desire', answered Aragorn."
. " 'It is a gift I bring you from the Lady of Rivendell', answered Halbarad. 'She wrought it in secret, and long was the making. But she also sends word to you: The days now are short. Either our hope cometh, or all hopes end. Therefore I send thee what I have made for thee. Fare well, Elfstone!' "
. " 'Yes, you have it,' said Gimli. 'The Lady of the Wood! She read many hearts and desires. now why did we not wish for some of our own kinsfolk, Legolas?'
Legolas stood before the gate and turned his bright eyes away north and east, and his fair face was troubled. 'I do not think that any would come,' he answered. 'They have no need to ride to war; war already marches on their own lands."
. "But Merry had eyes only for Aragorn, so startling was the change that he saw in him, as if in one night many years had fallen on his head. Grim was his face, grey-hued and weary."
. " 'You will do as you will, my Lord Aragorn,' said Théoden. 'It is your doom, maybe, to tread strange paths that others dare not."
. " 'Good-bye!' said Merry. He could find no more to say. He felt very small and depressed by all these gloomy words. More than ever he missed the unquenchable cheerfulness of Pippin."
. " 'There go three that I love, and the smallest not the least,' he [Aragorn] said. 'He knows not to what end he rides; yet if he knew, he would still go on.'
'A little people, but of great worth are the Shire-folk,' said Halbarad. 'Little do they know of our long labour for the safekeeping of their borders, and yet I grudge it not.' "
. " 'But he wields great dominion, nonetheless,' said Gimli; 'and now he will strike more swiftly.'
'The hasty stroke goes oft astray,' said Aragorn."
-The Return of The King; The Passing of the Grey Company
In T.A. 3019, Halbarad, a Ranger of the North received a mysterious missive urging for him to come to the aid of his Chieftain, Aragorn, in Rohan. He gathered thirty of his kin and, aided by Elladan and Elrohir, the sons of Elrond who wished to join the war, rode southwards to aid their kinsman. On the 6th of March, 3019, they met Aragorn in Rohan at a hill called Dol Baran. Halbarad bore with him a furled standard, which was a gift from Arwen, and a message from her; and Elrohir conveyed a message from Elrond to take the Paths of the Dead. They journeyed with the Rohirrim to Helm's Deep, where they parted ways.
[OOC]: This is a location for stories involved with the arc of Amdirlos and Enniliel tracking the Grey Company from their home in Esteldin. The plot will loosely follow a timeline presented by the books (we estimate travel time of about two months for the Grey Company to catch up to Aragorn). Our storyline will mix elements from canon lore and LoTRO canon. Our plot-line is loose to allow side-stories and for others to join, whether it be for a short period or for the whole journey. To not pigeonhole this story into a "one-shot" type feel, we will be re-examining the overarching plan periodically to keep it alive and relevant. It will be a Dúnedain heavy story, focused on the elements of the Rangers and their role. That being said, we will not turn anyway anyone who wishes to join us, so long as they have a working knowledge of the lore.
Anyone who chooses to join and/or has entries they feel fit with the narrative of the story may upload here, for easy reading! Please contact any of the approved contributors for details, be it through the Archives themselves or in-game.
As this is not a kin-specific plot-line, I have made a chat channel in-game to facilitate easier conversation and discussion. Please /joinchannel followersofthegc for the fastest replies. -Amdirlos
