Blackened Diamonds make Blackened Hearts

A lone figure was hunched down around a fire, gleaning warmth from it, though the cold bothered him not. He wore a dark and tattered cloak around his shoulders, the hood pulled up and hiding his wild red hair from the world. The cloak hid all his elven features, one may not be able to tell unless he stood up to his full height.

Fearelhil sat with his hands clasped, his chin resting on his hands as he stared and putrid dark crystal that sat on a swath of delicate chainlinks. He was likely the only one in Bree-land able to resist whatever fell powers were placed into it, so he was safeguarding it till it was discovered how to destroy it. He was told it corrupted most if not all living things around it, so Fearelhil kept constantly moving, he seldom stopped other than to rest for a few hourrs, just to get up and proceed with his rovings once more.

Anger swelled in his chest the more he stared at it. He felt as if these gemstones were a mockery of his people's craft and the Silmarils. He lurched forward to grasp the chain and wrap the foul craft up and put it away. He slumped back against the boulder he chose to sat against this eve, letting his mind wander as he closed his eyes.

Soon silver hair and fair, pale robes and a harp crossed his vision in his mind. His mind wandered back to a serene porch in Imladris, where merry, light laughter flowed freely and he could feel his cheeks and ears burning already. He felt the desire to run his fingers through hair finer than any wrought mithril, to allow himself be swept away in a current of harpsong and laughter. He felt like singing, even, the elf with naught a musical bone in his body. He found himself drifting more and more, getting lost at sea within his thoughts.

He realized he was and jerked himself up and to his feet, cursing under his breath and muttering,

"Don't you dare. Foul hearts and deeds don't deserve such good things. Enough of this nonsense."

He snuffed out the campfire and starting packing up his camp with sloppy haste to get going again.

Idle feet meant an idle mind, and idle minds wander into dangerous waters.
