Must Be A Dream

It was impossible. A dream. Or perhaps a nightmare, with how it tortured her. Still, his return could not be a nightmare with such gentle words...could it?

The day had been lovely. She'd met Aellwenn's son, and he was such an adorable lad. She had the chance to speak to Aellwenn a little while as well, which she found she quite enjoyed. The woman understood her, and Ash was rather fond of the boy.

Later, she had simply sat at her table that evening, drinking a mead. Lothaer and Alfnia had joined her, and she found herself smiling and laughing quite readily.

Perhaps if her back had not been to the door, she would not have been so shocked. But how was she to know...?

A coin was flicked beside her, and her confusion and curiosity led to her searching her surroundings for the owner. He was beside the counter, near the fire in the front.

He had told her he left a note. That he feared for her safety. He never ceased thinking about her.

He'd apologised, reached for her hand...held her as she wept.

"Would you rather I leave?"

Such unfair words, for such a shocking moment! How was she to answer that? How could she make such a decision. She had rebuilt her life, believing she had not been enough for him. She did not believe he was lying, but the lack of the aforementioned letter made her mind rather hard to calm.

The end of the day, she had dragged herself to her bed. Her mind was buzzing and she felt as though she might, perhaps, wake in the morning to find it a dream.

"Yes. A dream. This..cannot be true. It is..my own loneliness."
