Outward Appearance

Tivlyn Locksley is unusually tall for a woman of Bree-land, standing at a towering six feet tall, with a statuesque, voluptuous build. Her warm brown eyes sparkle with good cheer, and her toothy grin, missing bottom front left tooth, comes easily and often. Sun-kissed and heavily freckled, her ruddy complexion speaks of a life spent under open skies, while faint scars that look like they're scuffs from tree branches or rocks, hint at an adventurous and boisterous young woman.

Her long, jet black hair is nearly always pulled back in a ponytail, braid or pinned up. She favors practical, sturdy clothing suited for movement, and usually wears no embellishment, though she does love dressing up for a party! Her hands are rough from labor, nails kept short for utility. She lacks grace, but what she lacks in elegance, she more than makes up for in confidence, her stride is bold, with an easy, natural spring that suggests a young woman who enjoys life and moves through the world on her own terms.

She often wears a pack with a hatchet sticking out of it; in the past it was a well loved and carefully mended pack and hatchet that had belonged to her father, more recently she wears a pack of finer make with her initials engraved upon it and a new hatchet within it. When she's dressed up for a party, she wears many of the bracelets she's collected over the years. Otherwise, all she wears is a silver knotwork ring on her right thumb, and a gold chain with a golden frying pan pendant on it.

Background

Tivlyn was born and raised in the Locksley Boarding House, a bustling waystop nestled between Bree and the Lone-lands. Owned by her parents and managed by her mother and eldest sister, the boarding house was always buzzing with travelers, stories, and the steady rhythm of daily labor. Her father, a Constable with the Watch, served as a firm yet kind-hearted protector of the roads, a role he once hoped Tivlyn would take up.

From childhood, Tivlyn knew the value of hard work. Whether tending to guests, helping in the kitchen, chopping and hauling firewood, or lending a hand out on her uncle’s farm, she was always in motion. With a sturdy build and a natural strength, she took well to the combat training her father insisted upon, growing into a capable fighter under his careful teaching.

Though she once held great respect for the Watch, life had other plans. A chance meeting with an enterprising hobbit, Master Adso Haybank, turned into a fast friendship, and before long, Tivlyn found herself in his employ as a guard. Fiercely protective of her small friend, she stood between him and trouble more times than she could count, losing a tooth in the process. That was too much for Adso, and he was unwilling to see her risk herself further for his sake, eventually releasing her from his service. There were no hard feelings; their friendship remains as strong as ever, and Tivlyn still visits him often. Not wishing to return to the boarding house that had grown to feel quite cramped, Tivlyn apprenticed with a weapon-smith named Axeli Axesmith, from The Stone Quarter in Bree, and when not working with Axeli, she often aided her uncle Jackryn and his company of mercenaries.

A series of tragedies has seen the once-large Locksley family dwindle, and with it, the boarding house was closed and sold, Tivlyn left to raise her two younger siblings, Bethlynn and Warryn. Though grief weighs heavy on her shoulders, Tivlyn carries it with quiet strength, believing those she’s lost wouldn't want her to wallow in grief, but would wish for her to keep moving forward.

She does just that, one step at a time, axe in hand, smile at the ready. Yet, she is not as naive as she once was. Even so, she holds fast to the lessons her father taught her: Stand strong, work hard, play hard, and protect those who cannot protect themselves. These days she does quite a bit of work for the Company of the East Road, believing in the mission she was told: To protect those who cannot protect themselves, to safe-guard travelers on the roads. She is also a co-owner of The Knackered Neekerbreeker Inn.
