A letter addressed to Miss Lizabet Honeymead, The Red Lantern Inn, Lowbanks, Bree

The Fox and Fiddle, Nobottle
Westfarthing, the Shire
Dear Bess
Reached Nobottle and are as whole and hale as we can be. Roads have been dry, but rain will soon change that, Broggan says. Hope to reach Ered Luin before there is snow, not looking forward to the journey home in the cold. Hoping to find a caravan heading East when the time comes.
Harrowing incident near the forest around Buckland. Rambunctious hobbits got in over their heads and we were able to ensure all was well, but all got a good fright for half a day. That is the worst of the excitement thus far. Summer festivals in the Shire cannot be beaten, will try to come back next year.
Hobbits are unusual creatures. Always quick with offer of a meal or a drink. Feels like I have gained half a stone just from eating. Have stayed active enough to prevent this. I am sure you understand. Were hassled by some kind of road guards this morn. Not sure why, but not all in Shire are as welcoming as in Hobbiton. No lodging for ‘Big Folk.’
Each day wondering if this was a good idea. Will be worth it if business can be made and suppliers are found. Hoping to be back in time for Yule holidays and gifts. Do not want to be away for that time, even if it means shorter stay.
Missing our late night talks and home, but Broggan is good company and looking after me. Dining in a busy inn tonight and pushing on to elven lands tomorrow, hopefully.
Give my love to Jane and the rest.
Your lovely,
Jocelynn
