Life is a song (part 1)

Dear Diary,

Sorry I've not been speaking to you recently but I've been so busy. My Journal is filling up with music and song, poetry and soul inspiring battle speeches.

Lord Elrond has a library bigger than even the Great Smials. He has collected works from all over Middle Earth.

I wandered away from the Library the other night, I believe it was Wednesday, and heard the most beautiful sound. Someone was playing a harp in the Hall of Fire.

I entered to find there was a gathering of Elves, I know from Carlyon that Elves love to socialise. Their parties aren't as rowdy as the Green Dragon, but in their own way they are as wonderful.

A lone Perian in the Hall of Fire is a novelty. Apart from old Bilbo that is, but he seems to be part of the furniture. I have not had any dealings with him as yet, he is engrosed in writing a book of some kind.

I waited to be asked to join the party.

It didn't take long before I was beckoned over by a female Elf. I introduced myself and was greeted by a landslide of names and titles as the Elves intorduced themselves to me.

I'm sorry to say by the time I had gone to my bed I had forgotten their names, but oh the music, the laughter and the stories.

I asked if I could play a few tunes, it did seem to be a good idea, after all it is expected at the Green Dragon.

The Elves were delighted and after I borrowed a lute from one of them I played a few tunes from home. Elves were dancing to the slower tunes in their graceful way, I played a jig or two and told them about Green Dragon and the Hobbits all dancing and telling stories or asking riddles.

They loved hearing about the Green Dragon and even had a round of Riddles, I think this was as an honour for me being their guest.

I listened to one Elven lass play her harp. It was the most beautiful sound I have ever heard.

At the end of the evening the Hall of Fire was slowly emptying with folk heading off to their dwellings and guest quarters.

I was very tired, but enjoying the company so much I didnt want to leave. I got chatting with an Elven lass I had been introduced to earlier in the evening. We chattered on for at least an hour about everything and nothing. I think I even blabbered on about taters and the troubles of farming in the marshlands around Frogmorton.

As my yawns had become so frequent they were disturbing the conversation I decided to head back to my quarters. On announcing I was to go to bed the Elven lass thanked me for an evening of joy and unclasped from her neck a necklace and gave it to me as a gift.

I shall always wear it. It is a reminder of that evening.

I have sent a letter to Anysia back in The Shire asking if she could make a Harp for me. She is known to make the very best instruments. I hope it will arrive before the snows melt on the mountain passes.
