As this is the last Friday of the week, today's 'At the Sign of...' event series will be held at the Floating Log Inn (Frogmorton, the Shire) as decided by Roleplayers of LOTRO's members!

In the land of the Little Folk, the Hobbits’ Shire, the East Road winds. Along one such stretch of the road a post has been driven into the ground. On that post, a great piece of driftwood has been fixed, and a notice upon it, in a large and self-important hand, reads:

‘BOOKS, LETTERS, MAPS, GENEALOGIES, ASTROLOGIES, READING MATERIAL, & MISCELLANIA, ETC. OF ALL PATTERNS, STRIPES, KINDS & TYPES WANTED FOR PURCHASE. MARVELOUS PRICES WILL BE PAID. SERIOUS BUSINESS INQUIRIES SHOULD BE DIRECTED TO MR. PONTO HOPSBLOSSOM OF THE FLOATING LOG INN, WHO HAS BEEN DEPUTIZED TO MANAGE THE PURCHASE OF SAID ITEMS ON BEHALF OF MR. FLODOARD DOWNSFOOT, P. G. o. T. S, OF THE FROGHOLES-AT-FROGMORTON. NO FRAUD, DISHONESTY, OR CHARLATANISM PLEASE.’

“MARVELOUS PRICES”? For dusty old books? At the old Floating Log Inn? There’s a notice sure to catch the eye of any ambling Hobbit, keen to get the latest gossip about old man Downsfoot’s misadventures, to say nothing of its appeal to travelling tradespeople—Dwarves and their kind—or, indeed, those who traffic in fraud, dishonesty, and charlatanism…. Whoever pursues the notice, one thing is sure: this Highday, the Floating Log will be much more crowded than usual!

 ​Please note that this week's hook responds to Roleplayers of LOTRO's 'Refurbishing the Brandy Hall Archives' special event prompt, which prompts RPers to supply Merry Brandybuck with lore in his quest to restore the ancestral library at Brandy Hall. Once 150 pieces of lore have been collected, a story-based celebration in LOTRO's Buckland will be triggered, as well as the reveal of a brand new project we have been working on for the roleplay community, codenamed Project Kalimac. Reactions to this post on ROL's LFRP Board will count towards the special event's Lore Count.
