Journal the Thirteenth - Corruption

These Knights of Sunset show their true colours now, belying the beautiful image of a kalidoscopic sky. The sickness runs deep, their corrupted hearts displayed.

Too often now have I seen them in the company of Kazy, a woman who clearly works with, or for, the Legion they claim to despise. Esfin tries to justfy this association by stating that she rebelled against the madman, but his words only highlight the fluidic nature of her loyalties. She walks with one only to betray him, taking a portion of his men with her, then later walks with his successor whilst remaining close to those who claim to fight against him. Is she playing both sides for her own ends? Is it a game of power to her? Does it truly matter? The fact remains that such a person cannot be trusted, yet trust her these knights apparantly do.

The words of Esfin go further, stating clearly that the Knights hold many friends amongst the Legion. They are just followers, he says, it is only the leader for whom they hold any distrust. That makes no sense! They choose this path, they choose to follow, they choose to believe in the words and the cause of the madman. How are their choices any less despicable or misguided than the ones of Kelinor? Each one has consciously decided to embrace the darkness, the madness and decay... and these Knights choose to place their faith and friendship in the corrupted souls.

If you smile whilst pluging your blade into the back of a friend, is it any less of a betrayal? Can someone who would so such a thing ever truly be trusted? Are not those who give their hearts and minds to corrupted men ultimately corrupted themselves?

My belief in redemption is being sorely tested in this. One cannot show the light to a man with his eyes closed. One cannot force a man to look or see or believe. The man must first wish to and only then is it possible. Unfortunately, the reverse is also true.

The knights cannot be trusted.

The friend of my enemy is not my friend.
