A bespectacled hobbit lassie came to me in my temporary quarters in Bramblebury. Hurried she was, stormed in and then, in afterthought knocked on the door. "Come, hurry!", she panted. The urgency in her voice told me there was no time to answer further questions and I dropped everything and ran out after her. Avornbelt, my faithful pony, was still saddled and I mounted. I picked up the running lass and let her ride with me. Avornbelt knew the destination, and galloped without much guidance from me. I felt two hands pinching my sides, holding as tight as they could. Maybe she never rode a pony before, I wondered.
Arriving here, coming Home, it felt different now, as I was very worried. There had to be something wrong! This time no smile and blushing cheeks to greet me. The lassie took my hand and pulled me to the door. we went in and there was cousin yule. I looked around the large room, but did not see who I hoped I would see. I felt a panic coming up and started to run towards our blue room. With a commanding tone in her voice, Yule called me back. "No, Peppy, wait!" I turned and looked her in the eyes. "Where is she?", I almost screamed, "Where is Amorey? What is wrong?"
She looked at me, stern expression on her face. "Your panicking is not going to help you, nor her". She told me all she knew about what had happened and gave me her diary in my hand. Then she turned and walked towards the bedroom. "Come, Peppy, but pull yourself together!"
As calmly as I could, but with my heart beating at full pace, I followed cousin Yule. There she was on the bed, as if lifeless, no blush on her cheeks, but breathing! She was not dead, but in a bad state, I could see that. Exhausted, but maybe suffering from more. I ran towards her, kissed her lovely face and held her cold hand in mine. Tears ran down my cheeks. Amorey, what has happened to you?!
I felt Yule's hand on my shoulder. I looked up and saw the young lass she called Tahi, putting another log on the fire. "Don't worry, Peppy, she'll be alright. We have sent for healers just in case." Healers? But I am one too, I came home with nothing but saw Amorey's harp standing in the corner. I took the beautifully crafted instrument and played every healing ballad and lay that I knew and then even some that I heard my teachers in Rivendell play, but that I was not deemed ready for yet. The magic of the music affected her, but did not wake her, she seemed too tired to open her eyes. I held her hand again and talked to her, told her how much I love her and how much I want her back with me.
I took the harp again and started singing "Memories"..
Hold me. It's so easy to love me.
If you hold me.. you'll understand what happiness is.
Look, a new life has begun!
I thought I saw a stirring in motionless Amorey, but I could have been wrong. Maybe it was because I wanted to see it. I played on for several hours, all her favorite tunes. Then Yule took me by my hands again and sofly but decidedly led me out of the room. "You must give her time to rest and heal now, Peppy, she cannot do this but on her own, with her inner strength she will overcome whatever it is that put her in this state". I pulled free, ran back and gave her one more kiss on her lips. One kiss that I sent straight to her heart, our Hobbit Heart!
I wept, felt helpless, hopeless and useless. I will not give up on her! I love Amorey more then anything! I cannot but hope that I have made a difference for her, a reason to come back. I know she loves me too, she often told me so. I must now leave her to rest, yes. I'll keep thinking of her and will come back to play for her and be with her. But it is not the same as plauing as Hobbit Heart. I hope those days will come back soon.
