Diary, Page 3

Never has my days been so dark as these last two days.

I had only just arrived in Bree again as I was called to my sisters house. A meeting with her and our fathers most trusted and right hand man, Farilon.

Since my sister's fatal injury that she never fully healed from she can no longer uphold the right of inherit our fathers position. She has passed this to me and signed a paper to not try and claim it later in the future.

Sadly, upon this meeting it was also made clear what was expected of me and I was presented a contract I did not wish to sign. Upon this contract it stood what I had to do.

On the day of my fathers passing I must go back to Minas Tirith and claim my position as the households new master. Also this means that I under the first year have to marry a man of Gondorian blood and bear a child.

I argued the contract for a long time, seemed like hours, but in the end I was forced to sign.

Farilon, my fathers right hand, then took the contract with haste back to minas Tirith. This I could not stop.

As a token of my new right, I also was given my sisters circlet. Pretty as it looks, it is a heavy burden to bear. A burden I never wanted.

In my new found foul mood and walked to the Pony for distraction but only found the empty flame of a fire to warm me.

Not long after I heard a familiar voice and turned to see a familiar face, Hal. I had not seen him for a long time and was happy to see him even though the timing was bad.

I opened up for him about my troubles as he already noticed something was wrong. Sadly there is nothing he can do to help but try to comfort me. I am happy for the reassuring words but to talk about it to my sister would not help as she has already left all responsibilities to me.

In our conversation we got another guest, Julian. At the very first glance at him I did not know if I was happy or troubled, but decided to be friendly and invite him to the conversation.

Soon after Hal left and I was left with Julian. We took a walk and I was invited to his home where I explained what  had happened and consulted him in what I could do as he knows more about the Gondorian laws than I do.

Tried to find holes in the contract we could use, he also spoke to my sister to try and understand more of this whole situation. After a long discussion, reading the contract over and over, we found something. The contract was not as solid as it looked at first sight.

I was still down in the deep, dark mood hole of mine as I had set my eyes on the one thing bothering me the most. "Under her first year as the master of the house, she -must- marry a man of Gondorian blood and bear a child."

I spoke to my love about this whole thing, not being a Gondorian was making this a problem. Yet telling him all this opened up a new possibility. A way out.

I can again smile as I see hope.
