Torwethos Camlost I am named – 'the Empty-handed' in the Tongues of Men.  My surname of old is lost, as is my pennant, my lands, and my household.  My hand no longer holds the pennant of the Host of the Hound, of which I was captain – for the glittering helms and bright arms of that Host were trampled to a man at the Nirnaeth Arnoediad.  Neither does it hold the writ of land, the fief given for my devoted service by the very hand of Prince Celegorm – for that land was taken by Ulmo in the drowning of Beleriand.  It no longer wears the signet of a house held in high honor, as my household is ruined, broken – I alone remain, my wife and son killed in our foolish war against the Enemy.

Only service remains – service to the remaining prince of the Noldor, Macalaurë Feanorion.  He too knows what it is to be empty-handed.  My troop guards his person as he searches strand and shore to find that which he has lost, that he might return to the West and give the Jewel freely to the Valar, that we may be freed from this terrible Oath that binds us in exile.
